I gave Ricky Gunn a pile of little pages at Shannonville last year. He drives the chopped black 54 Chevy and runs with the Lead Kings. The funny thing is I bought them for my collection needed 5 and gave the others away I still think I made out O.K. If it wasn't for car magazines I would have never met 1939fiat and alot of other people at the Barrie flea market.

I must be a greybeard too. I have a collection that dates from the late forties. Over the years I've loaned out and given away a lot of mags mostly to young guys who were looking for a particular issue or article. I've also copied some key articles and sent them out (probably illegal). In some cases these young rodders didn't even know that an article existed, possibly from before they were born. So I have been thinking for quite a while about some sort of car magazine "library". I know, it would take a HUGE amount of work to manage. My thought was that instead of hoarding a bunch of mags (that in my case are sitting in boxes and will probably never be opened again) why not send some to a kind of clearing house where they would be loaned out similar to how a library would handle them. If somebody wants to consider it and start it up count me in for donating some mags. They would certainly be put to better use than being "recycled"

I forgot about AACA, they do accept donations and run an auction of leftovers/doubles on Wednesday before the Swap Meet in October. Either way the stuff stays in the hobby. :)

  6. hmm i have pondered the questions "what will happen to this car literature collection?"

    1. if i p***....where -whom should deal with it?
2.when completed (if ever) how will i use it ?
    3. how would some one else use it while i have it?
    4. who should have access?
    5. whats it all worth?
6.what to do with all the duplicates ... good or poor condition?
    7. how to protect , display, advertise.. the collection

    know what? I just dunno?

I see HAMBER'S researching-posting stuff and wonder how they go about it , quickly and without distraction...?

    PLEASE dont shred em!

But honestly... your ad stinks and bums me out all at once.

I LOOOOOVE old magazines.. Unfortunately, my pockets aren't deep enough to buy 2000 of em at once.

Maybe someone close could help ya sort em out and maybe list em by ***le and year. Sell em each or by the year or buy the lot by ***le maybe?

If I was even anywhere close to you, I'd help you sort em out.

There has to be SOMEONE in Florida that would help you.

    PLEASE DONT SHRED THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My first big collection I had to get a bank loan for $2500.00. I went in whole hog but that was 25 years ago. I would never do that again. 1958 up are pretty common 55 down are harder and pre 52 seams to be were the demand holds its own.

Another paper nut here. I have maybe 20,000-30,000 magazines gathered up over the years. Don't shred 'em, that is throwing them away. I doubt you could get any kind of project car for them, '58 and up isn't that hard to find. They aren't rare enough that any organization would want them for references. There are probably about 50 magazines in the whole pile that exceed the value of all the rest. BUT all of them are still cool....Why not break them down into piles of 100 or so, then give them to 20 different folks that seem interested, or sell them cheap per pile? If you got even $50 to $100 for the whole pile it beats getting nothing.I'd take them if you were in my area.

About ten years ago I looked into selling my HR collection, I had every issue..Several people would take up to 1972 or so only..Why? Because where are they going to store them? That would have still left me with 28 years worth!! So I boxed them up [1948-2000] and put them in the attic..Stopped collecting anything in 2000..I keep for a year or so, remove articles I deem interesting and give away/recycle the rest...

Don't keep them in the attic! The heat/humidity will make them yellow and turn brittle!

look for a great idea in thread here: Back Issues For Vets @ Sac AutoRama.
instead of recycling good car magazines arrange a collection through your car clubs, car buddies, or ? and donate them to our Military Veterans to ship overseas or local Vet's Hospitals, etc.

Add me to the list of collectors. I have tried two different times to sell them here. The last time offered to trade for parts, not high dollar parts. Still no takers. Seven plastic tubs, probably throw into recycle.

I had about 2500 magazines that I was trying to unload. I tried selling them all, selling them by year, everything. Nobody was interested, so I eventually listed them for free on craigslist and some guy came and loaded them all up in his truck. I didn't want them to go to waste (These were non OT car magazines) After he loaded them up, I asked him what he was going to do with them. He said he was going to read each one so he could learn about cars. Sounds cool to me!

    Good luck.

  17. Pity NZ is so far away.
I'd kill for as many hot rod related mags as you could throw at me.
Maybe I could get them sent to LA and thrown in a container headed here.

I'll take them if you are just going to send them to the recycler, at least they wont go to waste. If you are serious about getting rid of them send me a PM.

Hey, read the new thread: Fire burns down house. Very important to find someone that has NASCAR Preview Magazines, or can get them. A 11 year old Autistic with Cerebral Palsy needs your help locating issues from 1994-2011.
