Hot Rods Magazine build of a roadster pickup to take to Muroc or Bonniville

Hello great HAMB knowledge base. I am trying to find a series of articles about a roadster pickup build. I thought it was in Rod & Custom, I just can’t find it? Any information is helpful , thank you.

 

Street Scene did a series of build up articles back in 02-03 when I built the 2004 NSRA giveaway 30/31 highboy rpu. Also a few in Street Rodder.

I'm thinking it was in R&C? I think I remember where the driver lost a steering joint and went off the road? The driver and the RPU didn't get hurt?Don't remember the issues of R&C?

 

What time frame are you thinking? I have a pretty good R&C collection, but I’m not going to look through all of them!

 

I may be wrong but I don't think a steering joint ever came of the giveaway truck?

 

It was Rod & Custom I think his name is Ro.

 

Do you have military p*** to allow you to enter Edwards Air Force base which Muroc became or do you just want to go to where the Corum family wanted a Post Office but that name was in use so they spelled their name backwards.
Where’s Bonn’i’ville?

 

I am not sure of the time frame .. late 90s or early 2000s I am guessing .. but not really sure.

 

I think the one you mean, the back of the cab was stretched. I’ll have a look.

I think I have it. It was by Kev Elliott, in Rod & Custom, August 2012 through April 2013. They called it Project Not So Special. Final article was Bonneville or Bust. There may have been earlier articles because it was originally going to be a Modified, then he decided to make it a race car.
