[QUOTE="mercman@bulldog, post: Got #2/#3 of the Jalopy Journal, anybody got #1 issue? Sent from my iPad using H.A.M.B.[/QUOTE] Out of all the car mags ever talked about I expect Journal No. 1 is and will remain the most difficult to find.
When I was a kid I bought them all, I can remember when they went from 25 cents to 35 cents I was devastated. Where was that extra dime going to come from. Many many years later I found the RRT and then joined the Hamb (16 years ago) I find magazines to be too little too late anymore.
Why thank you very much, there's more of us out there than many think, but not as many as we would like
......................Please be sure to "spread the gospel of traditional hot rods and customs" to all of the ones that you know.
Down to a little over 1,000 pre 1970 car magazines and read them all. Many several times. Rather read about a 1957 hot rod build when it actually was done than about some recreation of a 1957 build. Same with new car reviews. Why read about what it's like to drive someones restored(or over restored)car? Give me a report....warts and all...about a fresh out of Detroit piece of American Iron.
Lifetime subscription to Rodder's Journal. I get a couple of non rod car rags in the mail and usually buy Classsic truck and Street rodder, Had a Subscription to Hot Rod since I was 12 but have let that slide latey. I have around 4000 magazines in the storage shed plus a lot of special edition rod and custom books but I think most have been ruined now. The few months I stuck them out there for turned into several years.
I should mention i have an extensive collection of “little books “. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Hey chryslerfan55, there’s not a Jalopy Journal #1 In the group? Huh[emoji851]? Sent from my iPad using H.A.M.B.
It's been Rodder's Journal for me. Sometimes I may buy another rag off a shelf if someone I know has their car in it, or events that friends or I've been to.
Lifetime Rodders Journal subscriber and HRD. Also have a large collection of all the old, long gone mags.
Lifetime subscription to Rodders Journal , HRD NRA magazines. I also sell and trade a bunch of 50s thru mid 70s Car magazines.
Oh it exists, it’s just trying to find one that is affordable or find someone that is having an estate sale....it’s a shame that the sum of our lives sometimes ends in a dumpster, contents of a life lived ends in a landfill. We only go around once in this life, live today as if it is your last. That’s the bad news... Good news is those that are Heaven bound....Well that’s for eternity, and that is Good News! You're talking about Jalopy Journal #1 right? As in, the #1 that went before the bound editions #2 and #3 that @Ryan published and sold here on the HAMB? Yeah, according to Ryan a few years back, #1 was a project that was never published and sold...
No. It was “published” and sold. I printed them at Kinkos. I think I did 25 and ended up selling 22 or 23. I haven’t see one in person in a decade prolly. But one did sell on eBay last year for stupid money. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
I stand corrected. Thanks, I never knew that! Now I'll end up obsessed trying to track one down just like @mercman@bulldog
Oh contrare my friend Speedy. Ryan and I had a conversation recently and he said the last one he seen went for about $1500. Clams on E-bay. He also didn’t confirm or deny that maybe someday a reprint might be in order...no guarantee though.. The volumes #2 are bound...I’ve never seen #1. Thanks for the input. R & C was a great magazine for years. Then, a number of years ago, they offered great deals on renewals. They did this for a year or ? I thought it was a great deal until they said they were not going to do that anymore but were going to a digital format. I was years ahead on the subscription and then I was to get a "digital" magazine When I wanted a paper magazine ? Needless to say I have not and never will subscribe to R & C again! I'm willing to bet they lost a lot of readers! Sent from my iPad using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
I have a #1 First Edition autographed by Steve Coonan, with a Rod Test of four roadsters, when I signed up for a subscription at a Goodguys Show. At the time it didn't get any better that that !
Deuce, is that a # 1 edition of the Jalopy Journal.? Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Alright, I thought I may have found a second person that had a copy of JJ#1. There were only 20+ printed...The Search continues. Thanks @HemiDeuce. How bout it,anyone else might know where the ol’ Mercman@bulldog might find a copy??? Sent from my iPad using H.A.M.B.
