Or you could just carry one of these in your tool box, I think I payed about a buck for mine. As an added bonus you wont set your ride on fire using it.

Handy tip! It's also good to use one of those blue-magnetized-blocks to demagnetize when you don't need a picker-upper anymore!
    Thanks!

Hey Muttley, where did you get that magic blue box? I have never seen one of those. How well does it de-magnatize stuff?

Not to come off like a brainiac, but to de-magnetize something is to degauss it. The top part of the blue object is a degausser...though it's labeled for the layperson.

    The opposite is to magnetize.

I'd like to know where you got that too. Some of my screwdrivers have acquired magnetism and I'd like to get rid of it without cooking them.

  6. You should be able to find one o' them magic blue things at any decent electronics supply house that carries tools. I worked in the office equipment business for years and we all had them. An old mechanic at a prison out here once showed me the wrapped wire/battery trick to magnatize a screw driver, manit worked great and the screw driver held the magnatism for a looong time. He just brushed the battery terminals quickly a couple of times and that was it.

    Or any tool place.
As a tool'n'die guy, I needed to demag my screwdrivers all the time to keep them from picking shavings.

The one I have looks a little different, I stole that pic from another site just to show what they look like. I think I got mine at Orchard Supply Hardware but I would imagine any decent hardware place has them. It works great.

you don't don't need one of these fancy magnatizers. All you need is a strong magnet, like a speaker,or electric motor magnet, then just rub your screwdriver against it like you're trying to start a fire, on the side of the magnet that attracts the screwdriver.

  11. I got my mag/demag at the Depot in the tool corral. It's usually in the back with all of the "General" tools.
