Does anyone make a magneto for mopar flat 6s? I like the look but have heard they are a little cranky to run on a driver.
I know my 230 will never have neck snapping accel, just curious.
I don't know anything about them so let me know good, bad or ugly:)
    Thank you.

The only issue is wear and tear on a magneto. They take some power to turn and the load is more than a distributor.
Fire up can be a issue if the mag is worn etc.
A mag is a generator of its own current and needs to be in tip top shape.
Find ya old six cylinder mag and i can convert the bottom end to the chrysler lower end.:D

Thank you for taking the time to answer Bubba and for your offer, any other opinions from the evening crowd are welcome......

  4. If its a manual trans car, you have to be slightly concerned with theft. GMC Bubba, probably can walk you through a simple way to make a mag set up a little more theft proof, cause if you dont a little push, jump in and pop the clutch, and there goes your ride. Like stated, a mag generates it's own power, doesn't need your battery or your key to fire. The way things are now a days with thefts, you need to be concerned. Hope that helps. BDM

Wow I had no clue:eek:as long as I don't paint it flat black with red rims and spiders/skulls nobody will want to steal it...:D
Seriously though that is a factor that needs to be considered. Thanks.

Stock mags are a little weak at cranking speeds. You also need to run a tighter plug gap. If you run a mag, like a vertex , get it hopped up. A stock good shape vertex is about 1.5 amps or less. Have it hopped up with rare earth magnets and external coil and you will be about 5 amps, enough to light a small bonfire. But it ain't cheap.:D

I run one on my SB chev., I've ran it for 4 years and had no problems. This is on my 32 PU, just hide the kill switch and no problems with people taking it. Most don't even know I have it.--TV

AAAHHH, the art of deception...you have been taught well grasshopper:DThat is a very interesting idea. I was thinking that a magneto was superior to a distributor but it seems to pretty much be a race item so far.
I think reliable is going to win out over the shock and awe factor this time.
Thank you to all who took the time to answer this thread, it was very educational. The HAMB Rules!
