I got a magneto off of e-bay and i think i got burned but no use cryin over spilt milk right??? The mag was supposed to be rebuilt...ready to drop in and run...when it showed up to my door step they had just put it in a box and shipped it...no wrapping... no foam peanuts...just thrown into a large box and shipped UPS...of course it was bounced around and jumped on so one side of the mag was dented and the cap was cracked.. I got ahold of the seller once and he told me he was going to send me a new cap..a rotor...and another set of points that he had...the cap was the only thing to show up..of course i was new to the ebay thing and i didnt know that when the seller told you all of this stuff in your e-mail and not in the add itself you were on your own.. So i got mad and threw it up into the attic to forget about it..well fast forward to the present day and i have finally got a motor to put the magneto into...i managed to get the dent worked out enough to get the new cap on..but that still leaves me with the problem of no rotor or points... The magneto is supposed to be a vertex...does anyone know where i can track down these parts???and does one size rotor and points fit all??? or did they have different part numbers??
Post a pic of the Mag if you can. Contact Don Zig Mags or Joe Hunt magnetos, they can help with parts if is a true Vertex
I had good luck with Moose Magnetos in Des Moines, IA and Magsarus in Albany, NY. Do a Google search....you should be able to locate them.
Maybe try a racecar shop in your area if there's one. Alot of racecar classes still run mag's, some of these shops might be able to help you.
I also bought an old magneto from a Hamber whom sent it in a shitty package and the cap got broken. Anyone know whom sells the reddish brown colored caps? Ive found black...
