I took my engine to some guys on bird road that were respectable. They cleaned my 218 block and 'lost' my main bearing caps. I want to use the original engine, but need bearing caps. any ideas on were I can find some??
Exactly, The shop lost them, the shop needs to find them. And like Alchemy said, make damn sure that someone worthwhile align bores the block if you end up with different caps.
Man, a respectable place does not loose important rare parts. Do what the others mentioned. Good luck.
As all the others have said,,,they are responsible for loosing parts,,and the prep work for new ones. HRP
are you really sure they are lost and not just misplaced? maybe they are at he bottom of their cleaning tank.or mixed in with another customers parts. i think they would have to be there someplace. i'd go in and rip their shop apart looking for them
My buddy lost a set of caps and it was cheaper to bore another block (he had a few lying around) than to align bore the first block. He found the lost caps after we rebuilt and installed the second engine.
If it was dis***embled by you, I would double check and make sure you actually took the main caps there with the block. Personally, I never send the caps when getting a block cleaned.
Did you mark the caps before dis***embly? If not, they may require align bore anyway if you can't figure out the exact direction they were originally ***embled.
I turned that shop upside down, nothing showed up. I'm absolutely sure I took the Caps with the engine to them. Now, they deny even receiving them. These guys aren't going to compensate me for any thing. I'm looking into buying a used 230 block and avoiding legal action...
In the age of digital cameras and photos from a phone, you should have a pic of what you left for service. I take a pic every time someone borrows something from me. A couple of magic words contained in the post, "make them" and "they owe you", no no, unless you have no proof that the shop ever had them.
If you gave the main caps to them and they lost them, do them a favor a give them some advertising. All shops love to have nice things said them them, when they do a good job.
Every car show I go to I give them some advertising. HOTRODPRIMER: I took the engine apart, however, my neighbor is a Mechanical Engineer that specializes in internal combustion engines and he told me to always transport an engine with the Caps. I respect his wisdom so I took it to the shop with the caps.
Gonna be tough. Been there done that with dropping something off at a shop with no docs of what was left. Good luck on the search. Nothing to add since it is a he said/she said on what was left. Note to self always get docs and pics of what is left. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
