I don't think he gets it yet 49Ratfink. Shoebox Ford with the spring under the axle supported by stands under the axle and the body supported by the spring attached to the axle by the Ubolts he unbolted, Humm where the hell does that spring have to go? And what goes down with it?

I guess you got a name for the car now... "Arm Bandit".

  6. Wow! Glad you're okay. Thanks to my wife's paranoid fear of me getting crushed under my car, I've developped the habit of securing jackstands, blocks behind the wheels, keeping the jack in place, and to shake the car afterwards to make sure everything is holding snugly...

Wow! Glad to hear you are OK, it could have been real ugly!
Hmmm, cell phone within reach, I think that will be another one of my safety check off items when working on a car! Thanks for sharing the story, we all need a wake up call now and then.

Glad you made it out allright. One thing i have learned ,the hard way, is to place jack stands as far to both ends of the axle as possible so the axle can't slide sideways on the stands. I am talking about old Fords with a front axle here. Like someone said steel axles will slide along a steel stand very easily.
And never trust those stands made from, what looks like exhaust tubing, the ones where they split the pipe in three for the base.

That it is. A reminder that we need to stand back and look at how we have the stands set for what we plan to do an give the car a good shake to make sure it stays where it is supposed to.

  18. I tuley am glad you are OK, getting hurt sucks.

but I cant believe that i am reading this.
Come on man, what the hell did you think was going to happen if you hold a car up by the axle and then un bolt the axle?

Angles should have smaked you on the head and said "Hey buddy!!!!"

...I thank God for the "second chances." He's given me a passion to create something out of nothing...Just like He's done for me.

More thanks is in order I believe
