Ray, dude, you have innate talent and tenacity! I can only echo what all this slobbering HAMB crowd keeps crowing in your praise. You sure have given all the guys a chubby for these months. Can't believe you kept REFINING things, where a LOT of guys would have said, "THAT's it! Good enough. I quit!"

Back in the '60s when I was looking forward to driving, steel coupe bodies were getting scarce, and fiberglass ones were nearly unheard of. NOW, steel is practically non-existent, and fibreglass ones are through the roof.

SO, you have done what old-time, original rodders did: MAKE SOMETHING ULTRA-COOL OUT OF WHAT WAS AVAILABLE TO WORK WITH. INSTEAD OF SPENDING A FORTUNE HAVING OTHERS DO YOUR WORK, YOU ROLLED UP YOUR SLEEVES AND DID IT YOURSELF!!!

You are in a class apart, and I think we HAMBers hope you win some awards & trophies to go with the effusive praise that's already been heaped on. NICE job!!!

Ray, I do wanna ask a question, brother. Now that you have your "Poupe" all done but for details:

KNOWING WHAT YOU KNOW NOW, IF YOU HAD IT ALL TO DO OVER AGAIN, WOULD YOU?

Thanks for all the attaboy's on my project.
I would not ( ever) hunt down a truck cab to make a coupe. It was here and so was i and i needed to ramp up my skills. I have done bits and pieces of this stuff over the years but nothing like this. I also know that this poupe will have no value on the market at all and will be more of a conversation piece when i'm out and about.
I don't plan on telling newbies when its done what it is. It just will be a 36 dodge coupe, as you all know people will try to pick stuff apart if you tell them what it was.
Back to the car................Should have the louvers punched this week for the deck lid, all 132 of them. Ray

I had the same idea Frank. I am in the process of cutting up a 38 ford cab. I will be slopping the rear window area back about 10-15 degrees and adding the rear humpback section of a 36 sedan.

It will be interesting. keep the pictures coming.

My Man, you are simply amazing! I never would have thought it could be done, but as has been said, you did it and extremely well. Detroit may be interested in you. Perley

frankinplymouth, you say you do drywall???? You show way more attention to detail that most. I can't stand doing projects with my uncle who has a drywall business and does well with it. I swear his tape measure only reads 1/4 or 1/2 inches! You must be much more detail oriented than most!! Great work I admire your quality!

Jeez, Iwish I was as worthy as RAY to be a HAMBer. This has been friggin' amazing!!! I wondered for decades if this could be done. By God, Ray did it!

You wouldn't do it again, you say, and I respect that. But, I suspect that your work (and the true identity of the "Poupe") will be safe with HAMBers, Ray.

You underestimate your unique skills. YOU ARE A REAL MASTER, buddy. Sure glad I landed on this thread. WHAT THE HELL does traditional rodding for (what was it?) poor boys, motor-heads, noise-making hooligans mean anyway?

If there were a HAMB Hall of Fame, I think you should be in there, automatically and by acclamation.

    Good, meticulous work.

    Fuckin' WOW!!!!!!!!

I really like that character line. It makes the coupe something of its own and not an attempt to be something else (like you really wanted a Deuce 3-window but couldn't find/afford one). I can imagine that body in "stock" form: very convincing.

Keeping with the early-'30s theme, how about taking a tapering slice out of the grille shell so the front of it is closer to vertical? The squarish hood sides suggest "thin" fenders: a more upright grille shell sitting nearly on the axle line would reinforce that.

Go, man. You have impressed the shit out of everybody here.

SOUNDS to me that if you seek further refinements, Ned Lund has a hell-uv-an-eye for details! Shit, great to hear from the hobby in SA!!!! How COOL is the HAMB, eh ??????

I'm not sure what impresses me more, the quality of the work or the speed. The constant updates keep me coming back to check in on the progress.

I could see this process becoming popular in years to come as the supply of coupes dwindles. You are the pioneer.

WOW! Just absolutely amazing...I'm in awe. I would be willing to bet that you are one of those guys who could build the ENTIRE body from scratch. I'm impressed...

So i had a rough day in poupeville today. Lot's of broken stuff and things gone wrong. At the end of the day it should be fine and with fresh eye's in the morning i hope i don't have to fix a bunch of stuff.
I decided that using a donor frame is costing more time then it's worth. A nice level welding table would make life easier. I have built a frame before and i thought a donor would speed things up.........wrong, only if i used all the donor suspension etc.... I'm going from leaf spring rear to 98 mustang stuff and torsion bar front to leafs. All that's left of the donor frame is the front kick up and rails. Anyway, no blood spilled today so that's good. Need to square up the rear end and get the body back on again. I love my cherry picker. Good thing i put a hole in the roof! Ray
