  1. Coming from somebody who's been there before....don't ever leave school if you don't have to. Time to get your Masters or PhD...:D

^^^ Atwater Mike - Cyrano! That is hilarious! The Cyrano Roadster. Would that be
highlighting the long nose a bit to much though? haha

drjones96 - Yea I'm contemplating it, We'll see in a few months, depending on if
I get a job or not.

Progress has slowed down on the roadster. The next step is the drivetrain. I'm currently looking into a few different options. But I'm keeping my eyes and ears open for an early Hemi if anyone has one kickin' about (Hint, Hint).

  4. None for sale, but I can take all measurements you need off of either a 241/270 or 315/325 Dodge Hemi. The 241 Dodge is the smallest cubic inch, and the smallest width out of all the Dodge, DeSoto, and Chrysler Hemi's. For some reason all those old Hemi are really wide across the front, so you might want to think about running an SBC or V-8 Flathead Ford since you're limited in the width of the engine compartment because your running a full hood. Besides it will end up costing at least $3,000 more to build a Hemi versus a SBC.

    Love the build!
Another option may be an inliner. A supercharged 6 or 8 would be pretty cool.

  7. wrong period, but a Hudson 6 would be tits-in-the-face cool. Love this build

Payne - Yea I'm leaning more towards the Chrysler firepower hemi's of the 50's 331 - 354 - 392, and yes unfortunately I know this means paying the extra buck...... but, I think it has to be. I have a mock up block (plastic casting) of a 331 that I will be setting between the rails this weekend. The firewall and hood-sides should be plenty wide since the cowl is a 1941 commercial Ford.
I'll def. keep you in mind if I decide to go with a smaller cubic inch hemi.

And era-correct SBC is Plan B.
    Thanks!

PonchoJohn wfritchen - An Inline engine of some-sort would be pretty cool, and i was thinking of a GMC inline 6 since a lot of guys were using them for drag racing and such, but I want to try and keep this build as "techy" (for 1960) and the Hemi was the top dog.

    Thanks for the comments guys.

Well I am not surprised you got an A. I think you deserve it, you had an idea and a vision of what you could create from a few unrelated parts and you saw it through.

Awesome thread! I have been follwing this one.
I went through architecture school, so I can kinda relate to the late night thrashes etc. I used to drive my old chevy to school and it was the only old car in the parking lot! Glad the review went well, It really shows how you took it from concept to mock-up stage, and how the design evolved.

I also love the pictures of you guys getting it in the building!

I vote for it to be named "Senior Prank"

^^^^ nope. I'm playing the waiting game right now. Trying to find an engine. I'm kinda stuck in the mud till i find one. I'm anxious to get back into it. I have a few leads, we'll see how those pan out.

Hopefully I'll have some progress pics for you soon. And I can't wait to see some progress on your '33.

ThirdGen, Like being a looky loo driving by an accident on the 55fwy, I can't stop staring at this jalopy you have created. The proportions on the car are spot on, not an easy thing to execute given the eclectic pile of parts you have started with. This car reminds me of some Thom Taylor illustrations done for Rod and Custom some years ago.
I have a similar pile o parts gathering rust in my side yard. How about a Right Coast-Left Coast Buildoff?

Thanks for the kind words. Much appreciated.

Get going on that pile of parts and lets see the west coast version of a "pile-o-parts" roadster. What do you have for parts laying around? I'm interested to see what you come up with.

I'm in the collecting more parts stage.

    Soon enough.

Josh, I have what remains of a 38 truck cab. When I mocked this cab up fenderless, It seemed too out of proportion for my tastes. I cut the top off hoping I would like it better as an open cab, I ended up sending Kevin Lee (Grimlok) the windsheild and area. Dan Collins got the upper door posts for his chopped 38.
After the Thom Taylor renderings, I mocked this up as a modified and sold it. The guy never did anything with it so I bought it back. Fast forward to your post, After reading and rereading it and staring at the pics I am now pumped up to do something with my pile o parts. I think it's time to breathe life into this collection of forelorn sheetmetal!
I have a 38 passenger car clip, the 38 cowl (it will have doors) I will fab the back panel and a T turtledeck to cover the tank and rear. The frame uses 34 front rails, box tube under the cab. I will narrow the rear of the tub, which after looking at yours seems the route to go. Mock ups soon.. Gordon

  29. I really like this car!! Well thought out, good design qualities, and killer stance. It don't get better. Your chassis is a lot like the chassis in my car, but way less crude.
I keep looking at mine thinking I can clean up my chassis, but you have me wondering if I want to start from scratch. I can tell I really need to give my build a lot more thought. You have me inspired! Mike
