Using the search function for "straight axle" or "g***er" will no doubt keep you busy, as this is discussed quite frequently.

Ive seen people use 40 ford front suspensions, with split bones and 40 ford crossmember. I got a 40 ford cross member if you decide to go that route.

  7. You can follow the build on my '56 here:

    http://www.blackandbrew.com/stuff/mycars/my56/56g***er.htm

    Or my buddies '55 here:

    http://www.rebelrodscarclub.com/members/lonniecobb/55straightaxle.htm

We tried to answer alot or your questions when we put this info up on the web. I don't see why it would be any different for the '54. Hope this helps.

this was parked next to me at 05 hamb drags. he's running i-beams in between stock front end and frame for the lift, small block and trac-bars in the rear. pretty cool, but i can't remember names very well.

I pulled the above quote off the '55 build page. What exactly is that measurement? I'm thinking maybe one of those Chebby truck axles might work for my build if its the right width. Anybody know off-hand?

Thats my car. If you want some info or better pics i can help. The car was originally built in '65, so some early backyard tricks here.

Often, it's a nineteen-second car that looks like it could run in the sixteens.

"Clone car" sounds too much like "clown car" to suit me. Put some balls in it and make it a real street g***er. That way you won't have to drive around with a fish bowl in the p***enger's seat.
