I almost put that as another option since I remember Dan doing that. :D

  2. Looks like a well built car, I don’t hate the interior even.

  3. Oh man don’t ever copy anything I do… I put the HA in hack…:D

But if you do… cover the rest of the tire with something, while the cards masked well, there was overspray to clean off

  4. I think the black wheels looked good. I always just run masking tape upwards around the outer edge of the rim and cover the rest of the tire with an old towel or bedsheet.

Is there a good way to repaint the interior?
The same interior in two colors of your choice should work well.

  6. @AndersF I repainted the faded interior of my '64 Pontiac convertible in the early 80's with spray can vinyl dye.....after spending the first year of ownership ArmorAll-ing the upholstery every week. I guess it did ok under the circumstances, but 19 year olds really don't read instructions or prep surfaces very well. Haha

  9. I will say, man this car is fun to drive!! Zippy, responsive. Only had it a few days and it's probably already achieved keeper status. LOL. Flat Top Bob hooked me up with a guy yesterday who has a 34 dash with a glove box that I've purchased for a someday swap to fix the smoothed dash issue. Found an adapter to move the wood Grant steering wheel out of the '69 Mustang over into the sedan at least for now...the Mustang won't be needing it for a while. LOL I have a better horn button for it that I never put in while I was still driving the Mustang before it came apart. Still a bit more modern than I think I'd like so probably not my final choice, but better than the billet one, so a step in the right direction.

I like the one that is in it better than the wood grain. I don't see any other wood grain in the interior, I'm thinking it would clash with the rest of the interior. I'm not a billet fan but what you have is very nice. I would find a wheel that would go with the rest of the interior. A silver cut down '40 Ford wheel would look a lot better.

  11. About the time you get all the billet street rod stuff off of it there will be a street rod renaissance and it will be cool again..:p:D

it’s not the permanent wheel it’s the “I don’t want to feel like I’m in a mini truck from the 90’s wheel”

man it sure will! I bet you can hit eBay and see where it’s at. We got shocked a few years ago about early 90’s mini truck stuff going nut$$$

I guess I better stock up on all the billet stuff at the swaps while it’s still cheap.:D

  14. I used a "South of the Border" home upholstery kit in my '32 sedan for many years, they hold up well and look presentable, they also are very affordable. HRP

There's surely some car guy code that if you offer the number and the guy takes it you got a car. LOL

I never make an offer on anything unless I'm willing and able to buy right then. I have a intense dislike for people who make an offer and it's accepted and they turn and walk away never to be seen again

In the same regard don’t give someone a price if you aren’t repaired for them to say ok.

  18. Agreed, the wood wheel is still not the best look, but I do like it better than the billet myself. Still thinking about what I’d really like, but for now I’m going to try the wood to see if it looks better than billet. Probably will end up being a toss up. Lol

I like the look of 40 wheels and I also like the look of 39 banjo wheels like in @HOTRODPRIMER’s ‘32 above. Haven’t really landed on which I like better.

Been at the lake all weekend working on evening out subfloors, so no time to work on cars. It plenty of time to dream about them. Lol

  21. Well, shoot, must be sold, Phil...the ad is blank now when I click the link.

But, I have a GM column. Although I learned on my Merc the taper on a Ford wheel will bold down and tighten up on a splined GM column...so I cut a key way in the steering shaft and just bolted the Merc accessory wheel down and it's been happy as a clam since.

  23. Goodies on the way. The adapter is here for the steering wheel, but being billet, I'll need to round off the sharp transition edges to calm it down a bit. The speedo isn't working, and the 80's VDO gauges could stand some backdating, so a set of Classic Instruments gauges on the way along with an engine turned panel to replace the billet one. The finned aluminum off the Merc engine has been removed from the Merc pile and moved over to the sedan pile and I've decided to pull the Torque Thrusts off the Mustang and plop them on the sedan for now. Now if I only had some shop time.....lol

  25. Right?! LOL Been spending evenings this week helping my son in law put cabinets in his garage so he can organize and make room for his Chevelle to go home so I can get my Pontiac back home from his mom's house before she sells it (the house). It's always a shuffling contest around here. LOL

  28. Nice car @drdave, you said you were looking to lose the billet instrument cluster. With a little work, they can be saved! This dash/billet instrument cluster was in my deuce 3 window when I bought it (please excuse the poor quality photo, it's an old shot taken by the PO during his build).
    86381126.jpg
I disassembled it so that I could re-bore the holes for the gauges so they could be front mounted, face milled the surface to get rid of the ball-milled grooves and then spent some time with a small scotch-brite attached to turning bit to add the machine turned finish. Here's a partway along the process photo.
20220802_175834_resized.jpg I then shaped and added a stainless steel rod around the outer trim to give a more finished appearance to the cluster
    20220806_102514_resized.jpg
and lastly, re-finished the dash with faux burled wood appearance to remove the unappealing (to me) brown/tan color. Anyway, this was the finished result before going back in the car.

    And, in the car.

Not trying to hijack your thread...just wanted to show that with a bit of work, your dash/cluster housing can be saved. Good luck with making your new car yours.

  29. WOW!!!! Just WOW! That looks fantastic @anothercarguy!!!!! Funny, After the woodgraining turned out so well on the A dash and garnish, I've half entertained the idea of having it done in the 34. You have indeed inspired me. Thanks!!!!
