I am thinking about attempting to build my own truck cab. Im thinking about the 29 roadster cab style. Im wondering if anybody has attempted this? Ive seen one truck cab that was mostly hand built on a video of viva las vegas i have and has good shots of it but doesnt say anything. Is this worth attempting and does anybody have any tips or tricks of this? Thanks Nate

Yes you can do it. All truck cabs were hand made until the mid twenties. Sheet metal is cheap. you can learn to use the compound curves from junk bodies...make the long straight mouldings in wooden forms. The doors are the most complex parts and you can use doors from some old twenties car- draw your body around them.
Saw a picture of how the cowls at the Briggs factory were drawn down over a form- the form and the two hydraulic rams they had were something you could make in your shop.
Rivetting is pretty simple, floors are pretty simple.

  5. I had this idea along time ago.. But never wanted to say anything (people think im Nuts already) I allways thought just getting the cowl or doors, and building around it....You should get a frame first to build around it..... make the body fit you... cause you know its all about comfort .LMAO! FastSporty, haven't heard about using the Jeep CJ hood to make the rear of the 30 cab. You're talking about a 30 Model A roadster pickup rear cab, e.g., the panel behind the doors, right? I've been eye-balling the back of a tall 30 pickup cab and wondering about cutting it down for the cab rear my 30 RPU, but it's not deep enough to offer any leg room. Is the CJ hood any deeper? How would you do it?

You would be using the hood for the compound curves at the back of the APU, you can then add as much 'leg room' by way of a filler panel between the hood and the doors. So if you can imagine, the part of the hood that closest to the jeep windshield would be the top of the back of the rpu.
