this is amazing, I found your thread on hotrodders bulletin board. you really got me thinking.
do you know were I can find some "urethane rubber" you talked about?

  2. Didn't the old Chevy II's with the 4 cyl have 'Chevy' embossed in the same Chevrolet style script? Might be cool.

    How about Chevrol-A?
Sorry, I don't know how to graphics on the computer.

  6. I have no problem disguising a SBC or a SBF with another manufacturer's valve covers.
I would like to take some 352" Packard covers I have and drop them onto something, but they are enormous.
I tried making aluminum adapters but could not find chunks of aluminum (economically and size wise) that would fit one of my SBC's.
They probably could be adapted to a BBC or a 440 Chrysler but not sure I want to go down that road. Those are kool and best left as they were born with.
I've done some Cadillac to SBC aluminum adapters with success but need something different this next go around.
It's fun to play with the heads of the general unwashed population who really don't speak "hot rod".

Okay.............Now you can all chuck rocks at me! ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1429996128.428686.jpg ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1429996159.057427.jpg ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1429996228.356086.jpg

I added pot metal Oldsmobile fender script to a set with a little epoxy on the timmerman nuts to make sure they stayed in place after verifying they would not hit rockers.

Did you ever hear of Zora Arkus Duntov.....he made a conversion for Flathead Ford engines that used them. It helped get rid of the, "Flathead Asthma syndrome". After being hired by Chevrolet Motor division, he helped develope the fabulous SBC!

You can see most of my Pontiac superduty valve cover in this shot. Used a finned Buick valley cover to give it a sort of back dated look. Did a couple like that, works pretty good.

Seen a boat with SBC in with Volvo-Penta on the covers, guess Volvo Marine used SBC, would be good on a SBC in the Volvo "Mini-Merc!

It's your time and effort but man... I sure could think of a lot of other things to do with that amount of it.

I could buy most the parts I build, but there's just no fun in that for me. I enjoy the process of building more that the finish line.

Well 52, like it or not, youve sure created a great discussion point, and some cool pics have been posted, so hats off to you......for me the comcept seems a little strange if you change the make of the engine entirely, but the Canadian Pontiac covers on SBC seems kinda cool actually. Regardless, some cool ideas thrown around and I enjoyed the thread, so now your can glue some Ford Flatheads to your SBF covers and impress all your buds.....just kidding, cool thread.....

I'm now looking for some Stude scripts I can cut off something...LOL
That was a wild recollection, even if they were just 'stickers'...Food for thought!

  18. I think these are COOL ! I have seen them installed on a SBC and I had to look twice to tell is was a SBC. I knew they were Lincoln covers but I think they are way cool. and since you have a Ford pickup it would be a real head turner and a conversation starter. this is a link to eBay where you can find some for sale. they are not cheap but I'll say it again , they are COOL !

You could paint your valve covers plaid like the GMC V-6 ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1429233062.165406.jpg

They already made Chevrolet stamped script steel valve covers, so it seems like a waste to make a set unless it was really uniquely different. I'm on board for the unique and different ideas, but to put a different automaker's name on the cover? That seems lame to me.

I got a set of early Olds style wire looms to put on my car, for a different look, but they still say Chevrolet on them. I even cut up a Chevrolet script valve cover to use the script part on the face of the air cleaner. For me this was a good balance of unique/different without trying to disguise it as not being a Chevrolet engine.

I love the Lincoln Valve covers especially on your Ford truck and it would be easy to adapt them to a SBC if they are close to the same size. I used the Oldsmobile wire holders on my SBC in the 47 Olds, not trying to fool anyone but I wanted a different look than the usual finned aluminum.

thanks for ALL the comments, some great ideas.......

KCBLUEOVAL; are you saying these Lincoln cover are very close to the same size as SBC's? those are nice looking for sure.

just for reference, the SBC in going in my 29 tudor (build thread in signature) and my 52'F-3 has a straight 6 300. ( the air cleaners are from 1 & 1/2 Corvairs)

this is the initial test fit of the SBC in my 29, I just don't think the M/T "rocker covers" fit the build i'm going for. (fyi, Hurst style engine mount is in work and intake is not finished yet)

  23. I took a pair of Pontiac M/T covers like that, hand-milled the logo off and epoxied a pair of old 421 flag emblems on the flat spot....looked cool.

Factory "flat" valve covers; get some "letters" from a crafts type store (Hobby Lobby here); and spell out Zora Argus Duntov; then paint them all one color.
I know there's a company out there making "Oldsmobile" valve covers for the SBC.
Maybe dimple a pair of valve covers golf ball like.
Weld all kinds of stuff to a pair of valve covers, ie bolts, nuts, misc scraps of metal, barbed wire, whatever.
Mill the "CORVETTE" out of a pair of valve covers and replace with whatever name you want.

    I am Butch/56sedandelivery.

Yes Volvo-Penta was using SBC V6 and V8. They claimed to have ran a non Chevy cam, but IIRC they where mercruicer.

Slap too Volvo-Penta valve covers on that baby, oil filter canister, road draft tube and a converted oil bath filter house, with a paper element. And a sticker on top with: the safest mill anywhere. LOL.

I would run that all night and all day! [emoji41][emoji12]

Mill off some or all of the fins on your M/T covers and get anything you want cut on a water jet then plug weld it on from behind or just glue in place. Your possibilities are limited only to your imagination and we already know that is pretty vast.

  28. Center bolt SBC's are very difficult to find good looking aftermarket rocker arm covers for.
You have fabricated aluminum, Chinese finned aluminum and a few of the billet things some of the gold chain crowd swing with.
I admire the fauxmobile ones plus the fact my son Pete gave me a set for a Christmas present influenced my liking towards them.
Has anyone here found a reasonably simple way to back-date or otherwise improve on the center bolt dilemma?

  29. i have not used or seen them but speedway offers an adapter to run the four bolt covers.
