Making your own fitted car cover

Roadsters,more so hotrod roadster many times have no tops to put up,like my sons T-bucket,he didn't want a top.
But would like to have a cover that both fit ,waterproof and could be stored behind his seat for a fast rain storm that may happen anywere=this is Florida.

Well it took to long cuz other stuff had to be done!, we needed full waterproof ,T-bucket has no roof and not set up to get wet inside at all. So did end up buying a fullwaterproof carcover from Amazon to fit a Focus[small car] and then cutting it down to fit the t-bucket. Did it this way cuz,by doing that got more matearel and some already has the bungy sewed in nicely. The cost was less this way then just buying off a roll waterproof stuff. The only trick is to put dubblesided tape into the new seams before sewing and that beside holding it together as you sew also makes new seam waterproof. On my son's T-bucket the upper corners of windshiels are 90* so could put a hole into cover,to stop that we added lather pad made from a old garden glove ,sewed to inside were cover is on the windshield corners,this could also be done at any point there is a point sticking up . The bungy was used around the bottom,plus added a valcor strap across under for high wind.
All of it folds up and is stored behind seat. The cuts you make will be by the shape of your rod,but was able to do it for outlay of only $65 and had a lot of left over,so made a snapover motor cover from some of that,again using the already sewed in bungy that is handy,=trick is before you make anycut of bungy edge,sew across it,so bungy dose not fly up inside lip. Remember that two sew lines on a seam is a good thing in this case.
The lether from glove was made into a bit of a funnel to cap the 90* corner all around and sewed in.
Its not hard to make a custom fit even though each car is it's own shape;
Put the too big cover over the car and mark it this way;When making your panels to sew together,think of your rod from two angles,the side view sillawet/shadow is your side panel,remember to use the already sew in bungy along the bottom by stratching it out some to make your side,and a top birds eye view is your top panel plus add a bit to front and back to make it as long as the side panels langth of the line around it less the bottom,making into a bag for your rod upside down.,bottom at the ground is were you use the bungy edge.

Designed for fast put on if rain come up,but also so none of the cover gets on hot headers
The carb/aircleaner cover is also the bag for main cover and it fits behind seat.
The pull strap on back makes water just run off.

 

I just use a 20' x 25' plastic tarp. $29.99 at Home Depot. Folds and fits under my seat. That's a nice fit on yours.

 

Thanks Fred but ;,you may of missed the idea; If you had to put that tarp or any none custom fitted cover on fast and it hits the hot headers,its cook city for the trap and mess up your headers too.
Been going to car show meets,were here in Florida weather looks great,but can rain even with no forcast.

 

You guys must get 'Nam monsoons. I've been caught in the rain 3 times. Twice I was close to cover, third time I saw the sky changing, pulled off the road and threw the tarp on. Felt stupid sitting on my tire in the rain, but after a while it got comical.
