  2. WOW! I don't think I would have seen that...GOOD JOB!

  3. So glad to see Round two on your Roadster. My poor little truck is supposed to get shiny, but it's been almost 10yr and I still haven't pulled it back apart yet.

Nice find on that nut, did you keep it to hand off the mirror for good luck?

It's a hot rod, the loose nut goes behind the steering wheel.:D I started following this because it came up in a search about 1/4 ellipticals and have followed since. Great work. I hope I see it in person someday.

  7. I was lucky enough to meet you and see your car at Bonneville last year. Ive followed your build here so it was pretty cool to see it in person. I remember you telling me that you were going to put it in paint. The colors you have picked will look fantastic.

The cars have a certain kinda cool look to them in a primer/unfinished type mode. But a car that has a nice paint job and an overall finished look (are they ever really finished lol) really says a lot about the owner and in my mind the cars just look much better.

Can hardly wait to see it in paint!

  8. Washington Blue...Cool! It will look great.

I am glad I wasn't the only one thinking that with you and that roadster there is only room for ONE loose nut....

Can't wait to see this one come back together. Keep up the good work.

  10. I think finding that nut would be a good reason to pull the heads off just to make sure there are no other foreign objects in there. Just my 2 cents, Mark

Nick, I stole another pic for Model A page...........

    Later,Bill

  12. Nick. I couldn't sleep until I pulled both heads to check. May be something smaller than a 1/4 nut in a hole or 2. Also, you said they installed the wrong intake gaskets. Well, I'd pull the heads just to check they installed the correct head gaskets too.
Let me know if you need any tools. All my tools from work are now at home. One tool I don't have is one of those whippy little camaras with a light on the end of a stick. That's one you could use right now.

Hahaha... the loose nut comments are very funny! :)

Rocky and Plain Label Mark -- I may end up pulling the heads. First, I'm going to check things out with the little light/camera deal. My friend, Jason, happens to have one!

With alot more power on tap, it needs to be heard once in a while, right?
I'm going to cut 'dump' tubes into the exhaust system. They'll angle out and slightly downward just under the frame rail, below the cowl.

I ordered these expandable pipe plugs from McMaster-Carr that are supposed to withstand 550 degrees.
    http://www.mcmaster.com/#tapered-expansion-plugs/=lbm9gy

This photo shows what I came up with. Will probably weld the wing nut to the stud, that way when it's unscrewed from the nut inside the pipe, you can easily pull the plug out (by pulling the wingnut/stud straight out). Pipe is 2-1/2".

May need to saftey wire the wingnut. Will see how it works out when I start driving it. Also, who knows if the rubber (actually silicone) will hold up to the heat.

If you come down I29 on the way to austin, you should make a stop at the T&A Flathead garage.

Your car is going to be great. Love the sbf.

I've heard that term/name somewhere before.... just don't recall where.
(the one I used tonight said "videoscope" on it - probably just the tool name - Matco brand)

Depending on how much time I have for that trip, I may try to go that route. Usually I head west on I-80 to York, Ne, then south in Highway 81.

Tonight I did some more parts cleaning and engine inspection.
Borrowed a 'videoscope' from a good friend to check out the cylinders. Pulled the spark plugs out to inspect. Everything looks good, no foreign objects.

All engine parts are now primed and painted black. I had a guy here in Omaha rebuild the T5 trans. and picked it up last night. Final engine/trans. assembly tomorrow and I'll move on to chassis clean-up and some metal work on the body.

Man, come on now.. This build was too easy for you. According to your FaceBook pictures, you haven't been losing enough hair over this car. You need something to complicate your build. Something like..

    Multiple 2-barrel carburetors. ;)

    Thanks, Ryan!

Hahaha... what you don't see in those FB photos is the grey hair I've gained! With a full hood, nobody will ever know how many carbs or cubes are under there. :) Oh, it's just a 302 ;)

Yep, water pump is painted. It's off the other engine, so it's older weathered paint. I think I did actually meet you at the Roundup a few years back when you first got your old modified on the road.
Regardless -- looking forward to driving down there in about seven weeks!

Thanks, Joe -- if you're ever in Omaha, let me know!

Thanks -- it should be even more fun to drive with this one!

...And yet another not-so-exciting update. Hopefully someone out there will add another 1-star rating to this thread  :)

Added more accessories to the engine since the last photo and will be dropping it and the trans. back in the chassis tonight.

I also cleaned all the road grime off the chassis last night and did some grinding/sanding on the clutch and brake arms. Rounded edges look much better than square!
