Did more work on the car before heading south for the Lonestar Round Up. My friend, Clint, helped out a ton getting the car back together and finishing up small details.

He sewed pockets in the tonneau cover to accept fiberglass stiffening rods.

Left Omaha on Monday, headed for the Lonestar Roundup with Steve (18N57). He's drove his cool '34 Ford coupe down from Bookings, SD. When we left Monday morning, there was snow on the grass and on his car and it was 23 degrees. Talk about fucking cold!

Had a ton of oil getting pushed out the breather and pcv valve in my valve covers. They were cheap chrome covers that came on the engine and didn't have baffles. Picked up a new pair at Dallas Mustang yesterday, with baffles, that seem to have fixed the problem.

Also had a driveline vibration show up. I has suspected that the driveshaft was a bit too short, since there was some play when inserted at drive position in the transmission. I'm at Driveline of Mesquite right now. We measured everything, pushed the yolk further into the trans and it was nice and 'firm', no play. AJ is building a new driveshaft right now, 1-1/8" longer than the old one.

  4. Even with snow on the coupe, I'm jealous. That trip looks like its going to be a hell of a lot of fun.

Is the drive shaft done? Are you back on the road? Are you drinking beer on Congress?

I should probably just start a separate LSRU road trip thread... one last update for now.

These photos are from this morning... I stayed last night with friends that I don't get to see too often. Their little girl wanted to go for a ride, so we went around the block a couple times. She loved it!

Always enjoy reading about your road trips. Be safe and keep that "Ford" in between the lines.

    Nick -
It was great to meet you in Omaha this past Saturday. It makes this world feel awfully small to randomly meet a fellow hamber while walking Old Market. Don't tell my girlfriend but, seeing your car in person was the highlight of my weekend. I hope to get my "roadster" legally on the road and maybe meet up with you and your guys for a summer cruise.

    Thanks, Jason!

New valve covers with baffles fixed the oil leak/use problems.
I still have some rear tire balance issues to deal with.

It was a good trip -- soon enough, I hope to see you driving your roadster!

    Thanks, Dan!
