Projects **Malcolm Model A Roadster Build**

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Malcolm, Mar 5, 2011.

  1. Hi Nick.

That's hot rodding for ya'! ;-)
Your build is very inspirational - it's great to see a so clean, old styled hot rod, with a not-350, just-go engine in it! Really intrigued by your 4-link rear, might steal ideas off of it for inspiration for later builds. When you posted the 1320 on IG, I must have watched it a dozen time the first day, second day not much less... :D

Sounds like fun! Keep us posted, please.

    Kind regards,
    Dannerr

Thanks, Dannerr - I appreciate it! The quarter elliptical / triangulated 4-link combo has worked out surprisingly well.

I'm glad to hear that you are still happy with that rear setup. It is still my plan to use a very similar design for my roadster.

We lost my Dad to cancer right before Christmas last year (2024). Occasionally, photo reminders will pop up of him and this is one of the most meaningful memories. We didn't have nearly as much time together as I would've liked, but I sure did learn a lot from him. Love ya Dad.

14 years ago today, he helped me get the cowl bottom sectioned and fit the cowl/doors/quarters all on the frame and squared up -

Still one of my favorite cars on here. Happy you got to spend time with your dad building it.

Sorry for your loss Nick, it's always a pleasure to run into this sweet lil hot rod out and about, hope to have a drink with you some place this year. Someday I hope to be as cool as the Hot Rods of Omaha.

Sorry for your loss, it is always tough. My dad died in '66, only 53. I was 21 and I use things he taught me every day. There is still a hole in my heart. I wish we'd had more time and I'd payed more attention. I think that is how sons are supposed to feel.

    Nick,
It's been a long time old friend..Got on here and read thru, and noticed your posting.
So First of all Condolences on your loss.

Been going back thru a lot of your old posts and replies from various members, trying to remember who's who...

I've pretty much gotten away from the old hot rod days after I sold the HellRaiser,, Still have the 52 Olds though, Out in the garage, covered in dust...But at least you're one of the die hard's, keeping it going for many many others. That's great...

Here it is pretty much the beginning a new year, so the ride season is just beginning for us here in this part of the country.

So keep the wheels between the ditches, and the wind in your hair, and wave to all as you cruise the roads.

  14. Thanks for posting update, sorry about the loss of your Dad. Funny what things trigger the strongest memories. Lost my Dad in 2007.
The thread on your roadster was on of my first "Follow" threads. Thanks for that, too.

Hi Nick sorry to read about your Dad, having lost mine last year know your pain and sending you our sincere condolences.

Ive just been through your initial build thread but not completely through this one yet. Just a couple quick questions if you dont mind.

Sorry not sure what to call it correctly but how is that panhard alternative set up working out?

Was the front crossmember a lowered Model A?

    Thanks Nick

  16. Praying for you man, lost my pops 19 years ago and it still feels like yesterday, but the pain does lessen with time. I spent the morning “with my dad” by working on his car. (38 Chevy in my avatar)

Pete, my condolences to you and your family, as well.

The panhard replacement ('funky fork' was a term we threw at it) never did get installed on the car. Here we are, 13 years later and I need to try it out. Some of the front end parts have 'worn' in and the car developed a bit of a death wobble between 35-55 mph. I've replaced king pins/bushings and some other items to no avail.

You are correct about the front crossmember. It's an aftermarket 'flattened' Model A piece.

Sorry for your loss as well

Your build thread was a real inspiration for my Roadster. It was so helpful being able to see how you did things when building mine
