I'm posting this for a guy I work with. He picked up this gem recently and it trying to find some history on it.

Here is what I know. From the pictures we can tell its alterd-wheelbase and center steer. Its all round tube construction with 3" main rails. I believe he said the welding was all mig... looked to be very well built. He mocked up a BBC with injection and it seemed to be what powered it. It runs an Olds rear. He has been talking to some early racers and they seem to think it was a Midwest car or possibly Canada.

Here it is... best of luck to ya!

    Thanks,
    Mike

That's so cool, I love '64 Chevelles. It looks like a post car. I hope someone here has some info.

The first thing to pop in my head was Malcolm Durham's Strip Blazer. I did a search only to find out he just died in June.

The tail lights are 65 with the 64 front clip.

I saw that thing on Ebay about a year or so ago (maybe less). I wonder if that guy got any info on it while getting Ebay exposure? I'm not sure if it's the same guy that your friend got it from or not but it's amazing what kind of things turn up when you list something on a forum that big.

I'm pretty sure it was out of Tenn like you and Ron Mayes said. My guy is in Indy for the US Nats so I can't ask him anything until Tues.

I know he's been all over the web and talked to a half dozen people about this car... but no solid leads yet. That's why I thought I'd try here.

Thanks for all the help so far.

it can't be the Giles car shown in that wheelstanding pic, the wheel wells are totally wrong (wheelstander has flares around the openings, car as it sits does not) both of the photos offered up from members here have too nice of wheel well openings, the style of cut is totally different...the arches on this car are cut VERY tall compared the the other two, which could have been done more recently, but I'd bet it's been the same for a long time...

First thing I thought of was Ed Woods Allison powered Chevelle, but it doesn't look THAT cut up. But maybe?

Probably not the same car, but in 1965 a guy in Ranger TX built on of these. He ripped apart his 62 bubble top and put the 409, 4-speed into the chevelle body. altered the wheelbase, put in an olds rear, solid front axle and went drag racing. I left for college shortly after that and never knew what became of the car.

I have a pic I took in about 72 or 73 of an altered wheelbase 64 Chevelle parked at a small shop around Osgood or Napoleon Indiana. It is a post model, its red, ten spoke fronts, and chrome reversed rears. Its lettered C/A and AXS on the sail panels, and has the name "The SUPER ROSE" and a white or yellow rose on the quarter panels. Its lettered "Meyer's Garage and Speed Shop Osgood, Indiana" on the doors. It seems to have a cage like your pics. Sorry, I don't have a working scanner to post the picture.

  18. When I first saw it, I immediately thought, "Bobby Wood" but I can't find the picture I'm thinking of. I wish Jim Sorenson's Funny Car Years site was still around; I know I've seen a picture of a blue AWB Chevelle on that site.

TWO years later John is still looking. He was able to contact Jimmy Adcock, of Tiger II fame... who is in Arizona now.

He wasn't much help in the initial email. "Some things look right... some things don't."

But he got out of racing in the late 60's... so who knows how much was changed by subsequent owners...

His advice was to start sanding... the car was gold originally... and his name was on the door...

Bringing this up to the top for a possible break in the case... We'll see...

I would start sanding and see what colors are under the blue.

I don't see how it can be the car pictured above (Bobby Woods) as that car is a 65 hardtop. The car that started this thread is a 65 (note the small tail lights) with a 64 frontend, but is a post car with the b pilar removed...it has a totally different roofline and sail panel than a hardtop.
    Best of luck...

    not exactly...

One of the guys here has the new Hot Rod Deluxe with a bunch of old drag photos in it. There is the famous picture of the Tiger II. He told me that it's John's car... meaning the John I work with.

Well... this is news to me. So I talk with John and he said he's about 90% sure. Jim Sr and Jimmy have been a big help. He's going to Arizona later in the summer to talk with them in person and see if he cant get it solved for sure. The Adcock's only have 2 pictures of the car left after losing a lot of memories in a flood in the late 60s.

One positive addition is that after sanding the car... its definitely gold underneath... :D

So we shall see. I gave my buy John the link to the 'Drag Cars in motion thread.' I don't expect to see him for a few weeks once he gets a look at it.

    ****UPDATE!!!****

My co-worker received a packet from the Adcock's with some added pictures. Here is John's email...

"Here are several recent photographs that I recieved from Jim Adcock
who owned & drove the TIGER II 65 Chevelle A/FX car. When I visited
with Jim and his dad, Andy back in June on my trip to Phoenix, he showed
me the original framed photograph. This is the only color photograph I
have ever seen of the car.
The next morning after I visited with them, Jim called and said Andy
found another photograph of the car. When I opened the e-mail from Jim
these are the pictures I recieved.
Also the new Nov. 09 issue of HOT ROD DELUXE on pages 26-27 has an
article with 6 pictures in it, all have been previously posted.
The other photographs are after the car was converted to BBC power with
Hilborn injectors (taller stacks). Note the piller post is gone along with
the door window frames and side & rear glass. The front wheels have been
changed to magnesium spindle mounts and the rear wheelwells are moved almost
to the door jamb. Also note the name has been changed to "BLITZER".
I have sent an e-mail to Jim about the name change, but have not heard
    anything back yet."
