Hi All, Is there a listing somewhere showing proper rotors and caps for ZB 247AX 49-53 Ford V8 distributors? Seems to be a lot of conflicting information on part numbers.. Thanks, Steve
I have the do***entation at my shop, but if we're talking "flattops" here you should be aware that there are two types of caps and rotors; they work together and you can't mix and match. In my experience either type of matched sets will work with the distributors. There are caps with a spring-loaded carbon ****on in the cap and a flat piece of br*** on the rotor. The other kind has the spring loaded carbon ****on in the rotor and a flat br*** plate in the cap. Either type should work as long as they match. I let you in on my secret here : Look on eBay for less popular Mallory "flattops" (generally RB Chryslers, Pontiacs, and Chevrolets). Sometime you can get them at bargain prices and you can scavenge the caps, rotors, even points and condensers for your units.
Excellent information and advice, much appreciated!! Are there instructions somewhere on the web on how to set these up? Or is it like a regular distributor..
The only other advice I can give you is that it's a good idea to use a dwell meter to set up the points gap. See this recent post I made : https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/flathead-ford-spark-plug-gap.361477/#post-14496674.
