I'm hoping someone can help me ID the early Mallory dual point I'm running in my 283 SBC. The only markings on it are "3PB123" on the shaft and "24100V" on the case. Any idea what "model" this would be called?

I'm trying to find the correct Pertronix conversion for it, but haven't been able to so far. I tried the ML-181, but that doesn't fit. Pertronix tech thinks it might be a ML-189 based upon the physical description I gave them. Mallory was no help. I'd like to be more certain before ordering another wrong kit.

Can any of you Mallory dual point / Pertronix experts point me in the right direction?

    Thanks!

Jim, Thanks for the idea! I've seen plenty of references too him on here, but he hadn't crossed my mind. I'll bounce it off him.

it doesn't have a tag on it?? how many lobes on the cam?? pretty sure that is a flat top mallory. I can't help you on the pertronix. I've got a yc310hp to go on my sbc. it uses a 4 lobe cam. It's in NOS condition so I'm gonna throw a msd box behind it. saves the points and gets you a longer fatter spark. a bonus is if the box dies I can pull it out of the system and still drive home :D

i googled the 24100V # and everything that came up was a flat top mallory like mine.

if it has a vaccuum advance provision it is most likely a yc497hp

post up a picture if you can. the tag would have been between the condensor and the oiler casting.

    Revkev6,

No tag, that would make it too easy! :) It is a four lobe, with two piece cap, and no va***e advance. I can't find anything by Googling those numbers?

I did talk to GMC Bubba this morning. He knows his stuff, so hopefully I'm on the right track now.

I think I have an early YC series, which uses the ML-187A Pertronix kit. I've got one ordered, so I'll find out in a few days if it's right.

    Thanks guys!

4 lobe would probably make it a mallory yc-310hp double life just like mine. if your cap is no good napa makes a standard single piece replacement cap for it.
