I have a Mallory distributor for my Ford Model A banger. Dist number 2301105. I need a cap #271 because the little carbon conductor is gone.
I have searched high and low. Mallory is out of stock. Summit, Jegs etc. same. Ebay nothing. Can anyone help?
    Thanks

is it the red cap distributor? you may be able to use an 8 cylinder cap until you are able to find a 4 cyl one

I bet if you call them they would measure one for you. I looked on Brillman's website and saw nothing for Mallory stuff...

If the cap is good just needing the carbon ****on can you just get one from a different cap?

Thanks. I will go and acurately measure the diameter. So I guess if you use every other plug wire terminal the only thing affected would be the dwell?

Why would it affect the dwell?

Thinking eight lobes vs four on the point cam means 1/2 as much time for coil saturation. Probably not an issue.

My cap measures the same in the counter bore that seats on the distributor. Radial location is by a 1/8" pin that sticks out from the body and engages the slot in the cap

the 8 cyl cap uses the same pin location. the extra plug connections won't hurt anything (it won't fire into the open terminals as there is nothing to carry the current away) except looking weird

But all they are changing is the cap, not the point cam.
