Hello all! I am new here and wanted to introduce myself. My name is Ralph, friends call me Ralphie. I know, crazy. Well anyway I have been working on mechanical machines and cars, trucks, boats generators and control systems. But I have come across a problem I seem to have drawn a blank on. Working on a friends 56 Belair, I have rebuilt the motor and moved the radiator to the front. Everything is good as far as that goes. My problem is with the Mallory Uni lite distributor that is on it. I have added a ballast resistor and replaced the module. Just tested it for working by bench testing. When I try to crank the motor the brown wire to ground gets hot to the point of melting. The car ran fine with out the ballast resistor for years and it burned out the module when we tried to crank it for the first time. Same problem, brown ground wire melted. It is using an MSD coil. Has anyone investigated why this would be happening? Thanks
