i am always complaining about the cost of building our projects, but we don't have car payments, our only dependent is a cat, and who needs food anyway.

That's a main reason I no longer build!

What else are you gonna do with your money? Waste it on something else?

I'm spending the same amount of money, but buying less parts. Fortunately, the list of needed parts is getting smaller, the project is nearing the end. Paint and body work supplies have gone through the roof, might be in primer longer then expected. The cost to drive it this summer won't be cheap either.

What else are we going to do? Sit home and watch TV isn't going to happen.

"Buy quality and you'll only cry once". Ha!.....You're going to need a whole box of Kleenex these days.

Use a dollar bill instead of the Kleenex, it's cheaper.

My list of needs for the current project are shrinking, but those last things are alot of the big ticket items i was dragging my feet to buy, so good timing on that one! I am planning on calling The Wheelsmith this week to order wheels for the Buick, but fortunately they dont have a price list, so i have nothing to compare it with, to kick myself over! Also decided to send the Straight 8 to the machine shop for rebuild, so im sure that will give me the queasy stomach feeling i get when i have to crack open the bigger piggy bank!

Costs may cause my project to slow some(more), but I have others I can drive. My biggest worry is gas prices. I had a bunch of road trips planned this year. If the current global "crisis" hits the fan, look for gas price to double

Oxy-acetyline is beyond belief too. (plus, my welding shop changed hands, so, now a yearly service fee will be added)

Yeah, don't forget about freight. It's almost as much or more than some parts. :(

Building a project to be auctioned/sold for charity. 32 Ford roadster (fibergl***) powered by a Y Block Ford. Almost done but needed some skinny 15 inch chrome wheels for the front, two years ago Speedway had em for $108 each but we had rollers on the car so decided to hold off more till the end. Called last week and they are now $267 each! Lady on the phone ***ured us that was EACH, not for two. Everything has went up but not this much.

  21. 50 years ago I had to s****e and scrounge to build every car. I usually had to sell them to pay bills then start all over. Now I have more money than I need but refuse to pay the absurd prices for stuff. I guess my car hobby days are over.

I commend you for keeping it era correct. I admit I usually don't stray from SBC world where about $400 gets me a hone, polish, ring and bearing rebuild.

There is a buick 430 in the corner :D

I´m 45 and have the same plan. My grandma made it to 99, I ´ll do my best to beat that:D My take is, fuel is gonna be cheap since everyone will be driving electric cars. :D I may be wrong.

I need 16 tires right now. 4 for the DD, 4 for the FWD shop tug, 4 for my 53 Buick, 4 for my 50 Ford.

Wait. I need a few motorcycle and trailer tires as well! Blow the bank now, or wait hoping prices don't skyrocket?

  29. I priced out parts for a off topic 34 Ford. Not only is delivery times a problem but everything is anywhere from 8 to 25 % higher than last summer. I think I'm done with building hot rods until there is a sense of normalcy. I've done a project per year for 4 years. While I really enjoy it, the current status is too much grief for an old guy. I will stay busy but I will choose other projects that could have less roadblocks. I maybe building custom bikes again. ???? This affects all of us everyday. I'm sympathetic to someone trying to make a living dealing with all of the difficulties of today's business climate.

If I see a part today that I may need for one of my future build projects, I'm buying it today.
