I'll be a Debbie Downer here and this might be a tough band aid to pull off but prices asked by members here of other members are often significantly higher than those I see asked on FB market place and CL in my area. Sometimes I want to respond to ads and offer the same item to them for less so they can sell it too. I know what they would say. I have just given cool things to others who I think will really enjoy or cherish them when I know I could cast that line out there to flip for a potential payoff. As you get older you see it's not always about cashing in on every single thing. Then I look for a basic part and get a shock as many are apparently paying it backwards. I have buddies who have given me things so I can't complain. Then again, I do work for others for nothing as well. I just get disappointed sometimes. Plenty of other hobbies while I wait for good ole boy deals that still happen.
Sorry, not mad at anyone and I'm no victim here. I just see myself in the middle of it all and can only do my part. Be what you want to see in the hobby. I guess some see cashing in on their hobby.

For once I'm ahead of the curve. When I decided to build a '32 I sold my Corvette to finance the project. I ordered everything I could think of that I thought I would use, at one time. That's the first time I've ever been able to do that. Usually if I wait and buy as needed, house projects, family, grandkids, life, etc. erodes the extra fun money. The timing worked out such that I missed the price inflation and delivery problems narrowly. At 74, soon to be 75, I probably won't do another ground up.

Ya,getting more, every thing is. Deman vs what's out there.
In the 50s n 60s it seemed, didn't matter the brand name. All replacement parts were about the same cost!
Now,many years later,my Ford Y-block parts are sky high,vs cost of my SBC parts.
I'm weird an love both engines, for some things they each seem best in too me!.
    Right now,my "Y" is busted,lost a rod,I have extra hard parts,but need to buy ; Bearings/rods/mains/cam/gaskets.
They{"Y"} are about 4x in cost more then same for SBC for same type parts.
A big part of why I never turned down a free old Ford "Y",no matter how rusty an ****py looking it was. My rusty used parts pile has pieces of 6 old "Y"s,two are still complet as removed from a car. But locked up. Got to be a few good part in there some were? Right. 001 (4).JPG

At 73, I don't have any problems with parts purchases...
The kids will be pissed when they see their inheritance though.

When I built the hemi for my roadster, I learned a new term for the parts. I found out that they all were made of a special alloy known as "unobtainium" and every one I talked to.about parts had this cash register noise sounding in the backyard. Once I healed the bleeding in my wallet, I really enjoy the engine. Plus, I can, once again afford to buy food!

Tell me about it. I exchanged a tote bottle of acetylene yesterday. It felt light when he handed it to me, but I trusted my jobber. Got home, friggin' thing was empty. I should have thrown the $25 in the trash instead. What a pain in the ***.

Wait, your gas provider gave you an empty bottle?! $25 would have been a clue to me but that's not inflation - that's a trick IMO.
