Don't let the greedy guys get to you Lance. It happens all the time. They see the crowds and they get dollar signs in there eyes. They raise the rent and jack up the prices on the food and beer. It happened to the Road Agents show and the Ty-Rods. Time to move on.

I think the greedy venue thing is universal and in every part of the country.

The local state fair grounds has fees for everything when the local "Big club" puts on their annual last weekend of July/first of August event. Rent for fairgrounds, per car entered fee on top of that, control of all food and beverage sales, fees for security (who are only concerned about fairground property) Additional fee for use of the main building plus fees for cleanup in that building.

You can pretty well bet that any fairgrounds that Goodguys uses gets at least 50% of your entry fee in one way or another and maybe more. Plus those fairgrounds control all of the food and beverage sales and set their own prices.

There is no free lunch guys, if you have a cruise night at the local burger joint the burger joint expects to have enough increased sales to benefit from having the cars there. Most city or county parks charge a fee if you intend to reserve the park for an event and the city fathers of towns that close off the street for an event expect increased sales in their stores because of the event. Even if the local mall lets you section off a corner of the parking lot for an event they expect increased sales and mall traffic because of the event.

Heck we have a swapmeet here in Fla. that makes the vendors buy their cups and ice from them and then at the end of the show counts their cups to get their cut. Also has doubled their gate prices to the public. The staff are a bunch of ***holes so don"t mess with that show anymore.Buddy set up there ,bought a spot to sell his car, sold it so he was going to sell his spot to another guy and they told him he couldn"t do that.Greed will shut down alot of good shows.

It cost me 75$ to register at the del mar goodguys show. The ticket collector may of well been wearing a ski mask and pointing a gun. When she said 75$ I put my hands up

Guys, the trick is to do it on private land, it keeps the greedy goverment and fairground owners out of it, The Traditional Car Club ***ociation is trying to do this, it has regional groups, a group of car clubs rent out some private property, every one is allowed to bring their own food and beer, you can camp out there so you don't spend on hotel bills, security is on every club that ***ist, so they have to be responsible for their own club members, a lot of clubs have guys that play in bands, you can do a sort of a car club jam.You charge maybe 10 bucks tops for admision and every one gets their money back, make everyone sign a release of liability form so you don't get sued by some guy that tripped on a ice cream cone. We can make this happen, join the T.C.C.A. , it's free.

this is why i like local cruise nights and shows put on by local clubs. it benefits the little guys, sometimes charities and it usually cost 5 or 10 bucks to enter a show and crusie nights just ask for a dollar registration fee. one of our local weekly cruises is larger than most shows anyways.

I agree it's ok to make a profit, cover your cost and your time and feed your family, but don´t punish the guys making the money for you , the guys bringing the cars that are the atraction to your show, that's the purpose of this thread , to look at ways that we can put on shows that everbody can afford to go to. like you said " it's what the market will bear" will buddy I have news for you , the market is fed up! Greed is what got our country into this financial mess, guys behind a desk that forgot what it was to earn an honest days work, our hobby should be available to everone , not just the rich. and yes you are right , it's a free market, any one can sell anything for what they want, we are just going to start to offer value for what people pay for.My club puts on a Drag race and car show, admision is 15 bucks , cars get in free, you can bring your own food and beer , you get to watch drag races, camp out for 3 nights, and watch 8 bands, and the track owners still make a good profit, thats good business, everbody walks away happy. We are in the middle of a depresion, and see that some promotors keep raising the prices for cars to get in, Not all promotors are bad , and some are very close friends of mine , but some want to make what other people make in two years of breaking their backs, in just a weekend.

every once in awhile I get request to bring my model A's to a car show. I usally decline because in the same letter they want anywhere from $25.00 to $75.00 per car. the few shows I do enter in are the LA Roadster Show, Antique Nationals, the Burbank Road Kings at Johnny Carson park. and a few parades if they are free to enter. With the cost of fuel I find I have more fun just going to Bob's Big Boy or Early Rodders or just a Cruise up and down the Blvd of the town I live in.

I would have to say that the originator of the thread was talking about the outfit that owned the venue where the event had been held in the past and their suddenly raising the rates for the event being held there. That particular place rather than asking for a nominal fee for using the grounds and planning on having food and beverage sales make a tidy profit decided that they needed to charge what appears to be an exorbitant fee for the use of the grounds and facilities.

I can see venues requesting some fees for extra sani cans or added security if the size of the event requires such. What I can't see is the venues that continually ask for a bigger cut of entrant fees and the spectator gate at events be they Goodguys, NSRA or the local car clubs 200 car two day event. Or those that keep adding clauses and additional charges for the event.

I am not a fan of moving a good show, but because I have been to all of the Milltown/Palmer shows since the first one, I could tell something was wrong there..

What was it 2 years ago? ..the place has an on-site indoor food area. They ran it like it was their first day of learning how to serve food! How about an hour wait for a hotdog..no kidding! Then it must have been Lance's crew who scrambled to set up remote food trailers on the show field to fix that.

Then last year, the place wanted full control of beer, so Lance had to beg everyone not to bring their own.

So it is time to move, I would think...but it's real hard to get the word out.
