This is a concern for everyone, In my car club alone , two thirds of the club can't afford to go to any out of town shows anymore, we are all earning half of what we used to earn, they are weeks that I can´t even afford the gas to drive out of town to visit my fellow club members, gasoline is almost 5 bucks a gallon in So. Cal. So we have to pick and choose anywhere we drive. Other guys have not been so fortunate as me, they have had to sell their cars and drop out of the hobby completly,I had a hope the economy was going to improve, but the one deterant we have is fuel prices, fuel supplies are plentiful , but all the fat cats are speculating on fuel reserves, and creating a false demand , eventually , we will hunker down and quit driving our cars for a while , and these guys will lose their *** again, the free market works both ways and if you charge too much and the value isn't there, people quit buying. It's not much better in other countries, at least here , most of us can still feed our familys. If we don't work together, and help each other out , this financial mess will never improve. Join the Traditional Car Club ***ociation, and help us make things better for everyone.

I'm sorry to say I've haven't had the pleasure, Me and my friends from other clubs are trying to organize the car clubs so we can help each other out, The Traditional Car Club ***ociation is a group of car clubs nationwide that is dedicated to the preservation of our hobby and the social life that surrounds our hobby for us and future generations, I took interest in your thread because we must offer an alternative to alot of these shows that have priced themselves out of our reach. also we are trying to form a legislative lobby that will protect our privilage to drive and build our cars and keep our hobby afordable for everyone. If you and your friends are interested, check out the thread " the traditional car club ***ociation " and read more aboat it. It´s free to join and we have quite a few clubs back east. Take care Miguel.

OK, profit is fine but i payed $11.00 for a hamburger, chips and a water at the Portland swap meet:eek:. When Henry Ford figured out how to make T's faster and cheaper he didn't keep the money, he lowered the purchase price..can you imagine that happening in todays market:cool:.

There is an OT car show here and this year will be it's fourth and all they charge is two cans of food to be given to the food shelter. Last year it rained so attendance was down from the 545 the year. We had a swap here at the same place for 20 years or so also and the fair grounds got SO greedy it is no longer. You would think that with the way things are that they would drop it and not raise it to keep things moving?

Charity shows are great as they tend to get media coverage which will create more attendance. Even if only a portion goes to your charity, a win-win for all involved. If you the promoter want to make some $$$ on your show, that's cool just don't over do it, keep it affordable and your $$$ will go up with increased attendance each year:)

I gotta agree with Lance on this one - and this is what I have tried to convey to our fairgrounds board.........
the people that come to these kind of shows will STOP coming if they feel they are getting ripped off - this being said - of course there will be rises in prices for different cir***stances - but for a place to raise the prices for no other reason than - Hey - they are gonna come here no matter what - we can raise the price......that is just not cool.
Either give the people a reason why you are raising the prices - or keep the same prices and be happy.

I was REALLY trying to get an event in the St Louis area and a**** the reasons why it didnt come together is the venue would rather let it sit idle than come down on price!!!

VERY strange - obviously the place is paid for and the booking agent is on salary with no perks for booking the building.

We will see if the Good Guys type shows can maintain long term - I know a lot of my friends have bowed out and this is local - the shows are only a few miles from them - but they cant afford it anymore......

Sorry Magoozi, don't always work... back here in the late 80s - 90s electricity got too expensive so people adjusted and cut back consumtion -- so what did the electric companies do to keep profits up? They raised rates !!
Same will go for gas prices... drive less, save money? Ha ha they will raise prices even higher !!
But as for the greedguys -- I don't have to go to their shows.

I'm not against Capitolism but to say anything is ok as long as some cat is mak'n a profit is ********. That's exactly why I no longer support shows that charge a club fee then an entry fee.(The price of runn'n a pro mod must'a went up) The price of gas and grub and the lower income around my place makes attending shows a luxury item. More cruises and a few of the and standard shows run by real rodders

I have nothing agaist the Greedy Guy ***ociation, they do alot of legislative work for us, and are free to charge what ever they want to enter their shows, so if rover want´s to bend over and let them take over, that's your choice, Every year , some of my club members go to the Del Mar Nationals in San Diego, as usual , they jacked up the entry fee to 75 dlls, I would have spent another 100 dlls on fuel for the two or three days I would have gone, I figured 40 dlls on three hot dogs and three beers for the weekend , that brings the total to $ 215.00 dlls, I took that money and bought myself a round trip ticket to the Lone Star Roundup, The admision price was $10.00 dlls , great show and there was ton's of free after partys and events in the evening, plus I got to watch the cruize on congress. I got to meet a lot of cool car clubs, and got to see a bunch of cars I had never seen, instead of the usual snobs that go to Del Mar. The botom line is it's up to us where we spend our money.
