Did anyone here go to the Manifolds on Main show in Irving Texas Today?
If you did ,just wondering what your thoughts were on it.

I left shortly before 2:00 ,couldnt take any more of thier incompetence.
I was pre-registered, still had to wait in line for an hour only to have to
fill out the same forms... again.

They had one person doing anything at the registration table, there were plenty
of other show personnel there just standing around looking like they had no clue.

I've bought car's quicker and with less paperwork .

Dont know where they were going to put all the cars, looked at the area we
were supposed to park, good luck, many were already "saved"....

People were pissed, saw many others leave before me.

What a cluster f---.

Sorry for the rant, i'm normally a patient man..

Anyone else notice this?or am i just a grouchy ol SOB....

Sorry to hear it was a bad day for you. Makes me glad I decided to stay close to home and made my way down to Leonard to hang out at the Stocker's show. No CF there, just a buch of gearhead guys and gals sitting around and listening to Pushrod Mike, Jimbo, and the kids play music while we watched Hard Luck Aaron stripe a cool blue Buick.

Registration was a little bit of a hassle....but man.....you must have been having a bad day or something. It took a couple minutes to fill out the registration sheet and sign the waiver....when I got to the table it was no big deal. Cars were directed where to park, everyone had a spot, what else do you want?

What is the point of bitching about the show? Don't like it, don't go back next year...

First time for this car show. Good food, great music. Plenty of cars to see. A good time was had by all. Sorry you had a bad experience but I will go again next year.

7. The show organization flat SUCKED!! My father and I left early also, It sure was a hassle to register as I tried twice had the forms filled out and all but after standing in a line for 20 minutes a second time only to have some lowriders cut in line ahead of us... at that point I said enough and threw the damn forms in the trash. Maybe from the feedback it could be improved for next year...
Hey Frigiter he's not bitching he's just venting. We are all glad it went smooth for you but you obviously were not the only one there..

I dunno Gas-X, calling something a clusterf*** sure sounds like bitching to me.

At any rate....it's to bad neither of you had a good time. Wish it would have gone smoother for you, I know Bart had the best intentions...but you can't please everyone.

Guys,
Thanks for all the feedback. Some good, some…not so good. But I will be the first to admit I really have lots of room for improvement.
<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" />
Although I have participated in many shows and was a club member helping in monthly shows, this was the first show I promoted on my own. I did this as a volunteer for the city, with very little help.

Have you ever worked with a municipality?

Anyway, I would not say the show was a failure but maybe just not prepared for the overwhelming turn out. We had about 4 times as many cars turn up as pre-registered.

Another weak areas was the car classes & available parking. I had such a tiny budget and did the best I could.

In summary:

Good points
• almost 200 cars for a first time show
• lots of nice cars seen for the first time around here
• good food, good weather & good turn-out
• cars from as far away as Tulsa & San Antonio
• over $1000 worth of door prizes
• cool trophies from the local car community (Torques, Brink, Chupacabra, Them! Wilson Welding, Austin Speed Shop, Fat Lucky’s & Dirty’s Speed Shop)

Bad Points
• Police routed detour traffic in front of the check in tent
• No dedicated line for the folks who pre-registered
• Not enough helpers with check in & parking
• Not enough car classes
• Spent almost $1000 of my own money to make it happen
• Awards were delayed by some lame magician.

Call me stupid but I think Katfish and Reed are my first two volunteers who will help make next year better!

Anyone else?

It took a little long for the regestration but I have been to shows a lot longer. I think it was Barts wife that was taking the regesteration and she was very helpful and was telling everyone sorry for the delay. I think it was their first show and it really turned out great. A lot of really cool cars and race cars. I did see the useal guys just there for the trophys . Oh well sorry for the rant and I'll be there next year .

welcome to the world of trying to do a car show.....

If i had stuck around, i'm sure i would have seen the good points, but when the opening is full of bad ones... I hope someone found the t-shirt certificate i tossed out when i left.

Bart, i'd be glad to help ya out next year. First, if this is to be done in conjunction with a City Sponsored Event...get the promoters of said event involved. Remind them that the more people the more $$. Second thing is get the sign-in/registration fixed. I saw 4 people in the registration tent, one had a clue, kinda. Third, get the Police more involved, espically if they are re-directing traffic around your pre-planned route. And about a million other details that come to mind as you plan this out. If you're going to attempt this next year, you should be planing allready.

Someone posted in one of the pre-show threads that Irving wouldn't know what hit them... seems kinda prophetic now.

I know Bart (Speedrome) did all the work on this deal, but the city really didn't know how to handle this kind of event... hopefully the city learned some things that they can do to make this go better next time.

I gotta say that 200 cars showing up for a first-time event that was put together by one person is pretty impressive. But any time you have nearly 3x the turnout you had planned for, there's gonna be some problems.

Hello Bart,

Im sure we have never met.Who really knows anybody anyway when it comes right down to it.
Yea, i'm opinionated and outspoken, sometimes intolerant.

I've been to some large event's all over the country, sometimes as vendor rep
sometimes as participant.

Seen some Well run event's some not so good, even been involved in putting on
a few.

I can think of several key areas that were lacking .Just having a few good volunteers
to answer questions and direct those arriving, and registering would be a start.

P.M. me if you would like.

I might even be available to help next year if you decide to do it again.

I had a good time, some times stuff happens, the only two shows that I have gone to in the last few yrs that were almost perfect , the Lone Star Round up this yr and the Watson deal last week..

true things were a little slow at first but heck, we had 6 hours to get it done.
a lot of neat stuff there, a lot of neat guys there ,

thanks for putting in the time and effort...
my only complaint was the hamburger I got... not good at all but.. I lived thru it though

I had a great time. Showed up, registered, paid ten bucks, parked.

I'll be back next year. I was not expecting the huge Irving event to be going on at the same time. :D The traffic reroute part did suck. They need to open the barriers for old cars that are obviously there for the show. All in all a great time, sorry for the codgers that got their panties wound up over a few hiccups in registration. ;) lol

Here are a few pictures of the show (I did not take them).

Hey Bart, sounds like it was quite the show -congrats...... I'll be there next year, but see if you can't coordinate with the Stockers show in Leonard (Pushrod_Mike) for 2009, and the Torques will be there in force.
Thanks man, hope the trophy went to a worthy party.

First I heard of the Stocker's show was last Wednesday when Mike made a post about it....3 days before the show. M-o-M had been on the books for at least 6 weeks. Would have been fun to do both but that was some pretty short notice, even if they weren't on the same weekend.

appreciate the steel that I won in the street rod class, not sure I call mine a street rod but that is where the guy said it belong...

first time I won anything like it, appreciate the time put into making it... I usually cut out before the awards but decided to stay.......I have one a few small award type plaques and trophy's but not anything hand made... really a neat deal.....these for sure are the best..........

Pecker, dont think you will have to push me any more......I had the old battery checked out this morn... dead cell so I bought me a new one.... looks like that took care of my hard to turn over when warm/hot deal.......never seen a battery act like that..................but.........it is a done deal now..

guess this FNG has extended his response................thanks again to all on the hamb and local hamb that have made me feel welcome ..got the old juices flowing again

Hey Bart the show was great... I hope the rude impatient people that left at least came in to see the vintage race cars. They were worth the wait on minor problems with registration and what not. If not their loss. I know what it took to get those cars there and you don't get to see that kind of stuff at just any car show. Sorry I could only contribute 13 hours, but I ran out of gas. I'll be there next year, and will help you work some of the bugs out.
