I have been thinking about sticking a manual transmission on my 301 Chrysler and I would like to know from the experts here on the HAMB what is a good transmission to mate it to and where do I find an adapter plate to do so? This is going in my lakes modified Willys project and I just think a car like that needs a manual rather than the auto I have on the motor now. I plan on getting 225 horses out of the engine with a few mods. What would you guys use?

I'll bet money that any trans that can be adapted to the back of a '50s Hemi can be adapted to your Spitfire. I haven't got any hard evidence for it, however.

How badly do you plan to abuse this baby? I'd be seriously tempted to go Saginaw 4-speed, myself. They're cheap, plentiful and Chevy adaptors are the most readily available.

My son was planning on doing the same thing for the 301 he is putting in his 40 willy's pickup. was going the 5 speed route, but now has changed his mind to a AOD GM unit. there are adaptors for the tremec 5 speed out there also.

Your welcome. Where were you going to get your adapter plate? I would like to be able to find a used one. Have you had any luck finding used stuff like that?

The only stuff he found out there was new, except for a chev. bellhousing for the 5 speed. i think it bolts to a flat plate on the back of the block..i can check with him this weekend, as he will be here, wiring our remodeling project.
