Yeah, I did that with the first T-10 in my 57, started popping out of second gear when shifting down, not sure if I had anything to do with it though, I got a rebuilt T-10 and decided my "vroom vroom" days were over. Yes, I know they were known for doing that.
You can do it while driving just have to synchronize the speed to the gear and don’t be forceful,?had a four speed with a super stout clutch that would snap the engine side z bar ball stud occasionally and I’d drive home with no clutch. Dan
I do it all the time. If it’s bad….oh well. It’s the only way I could drive it for the last thirty years.
When you acquire skills you can row it up and down the gears with no clutch [while driving] I've been doing this for 40 years [to practice] Muncie's are bad for that! So you buy a "Hook Slider" or "back cut" slider.[but these slow down 2 to 3 upshift] I can't comment on T10's 2nd gear is the most abused gear in the trans, so it usually is years of wear and tear that causes this. I have patch repaired a Muncie by swapping the 1-2 slider around with the 3-4 slider. Hoping the 3rd gear is still good [or some other "cowboy" hasn't beaten me to it]
Had to read that one a couple of times. At first I thought it read tow. I'd guess if you jack the back tires just off the garage floor so the yoke and tail shaft are able to wiggle a bit it might be a tad easier on the syncros when you play a round of speed shift.
While at a dead stop, motor not running? thats anyones guess, but keep in mind that normally while running, the syncros are full of oil, and centered from centrifugal force. You need to do that to adjust linkage, but playing like a kid I would stay away from.
