I have a '60 F-100 with a 3 speed manual that is giving me trouble. Basically 3rd gear is shot. I have to get the rpms high in second to get it into 3rd without stalling. It will evenutally catch up and be ok in 3rd, but there is just no power there.

Does anyone have any experience with this? Will rebuilding it help the situation or is it too far gone and I just have to get a new transmission?

    Any help would be great

Look a little further forward I think. If the trans has all 3 forward gears working I would say the problem is in the clutch. First make sure the clutch pedal has at least 1 inch of free travel before you notice much presure against your hand. If you don't have freeplay adjust the linkage which is down at the arm that comes out of the bellhousing. While you are under the truck pull the tin cover off the bottom of the bellhousing and confirm the throw out bearing is not touching the fingers of the clutch cover/presure plate. Most likely though time for a new clutch as driving it slipping that bad has killed it.
