Saturday April 3, 2021 dawned a sunny but chilly morning in Mohnton, PA. The Maple Grove Raceway opened its gates for its first swap meet of 2021. I joined the long triple line waiting to pay our $5 entry fee. At 8:15, the large parking area was already filling up. Vendors stretched from the top of the hill, near the start finish line, to the grassy area about the 1/8 mile point. As is usual, the parts for sale were a mix of race parts and antique car and truck parts. Sales seemed brisk and suddenly it was like 2020 never happened. Get your vaccine, it’s going to be a great year at swap meets.
Great to hear things are finally openning But I have to be honest...those are the WORST swap meet event pictures EVER
..just what we wanted to see, a bunch of spectator cars waitin to get in,...come on, where's the swap pics?
I didn't get to go this time. When this swap meet is normal size it is the whole, and I mean the whole pit area and than some. Gene.
Maybe that's true in the Black Hills, but in my part of the world, vaccines, masks, cancelled events and restricted gatherings etc. sure the fuck doesn't make the "outside world" anywhere near normal here
Thanks. New York State has about the most restrictive "rules" in the country...which is both good and bad. But, we are SO far from normal, it isn't funny
Sorry about the pictures. Once I start shopping, the idea of taking pictures just fades away. The put area is pretty flat, so it’s hard to get that great crowd shot like you might get at Carlisle- from up on the hill.
Ok, here is some rusty junk. The windows are ‘41-‘46 Chevy truck. I sell parts for these trucks all year; and sell a ton of it at Hershey. I also bought some OT service manuals, which are great $$ makers; and some OT (later) Chevy truck parts. At the tail end of the field were 2 different vendors selling flatheads. That’s an unusual occurrence these days.
The Fall Maple Grove swap meet is Saturday October 29, 2022. Gates open at 8am. Costs you $5 at the gate with free parking. A great place to spend 3-4 hours.
I will be there also...try to not miss this. Also, just an FYI...the Sliver Springs race car swap meet is the following Saturday at the Carlisle fairgrounds. It is mostly oval track and go-kart stuff but I always leave there with somthing. This year I will be looking for some 4-banger Chevy II hot rod parts. Entrance and on grounds parking have been free...hope that is the case this year too. Gene.
Maple Grove had great weather. Just a bit chilly in the morning; but bright sunshine quickly made the temperature very pleasant. There were a lot of vendors. The main side was filled all the way to the bottom. No vendors in the overflow lot. Sales seemed brisk, but the spectator parking lot was only half filled. Indeed, it seemed there were more vendors than buyers? Why is that? Well it’s poorly publicized- if at all. And the food situation is horrible. And this time somebody forgot to order the portable toilets! They can do better- and the spectators will respond.
Just got home from it. The "new and improved " procedure for the buyers getting in is a downgrade, no doubt a product of the place being under new ownership. I still bought a good pile of stuff, though.
Got back a few hours ago, did buy some stuff. Some stuff was crazy high...but when it's your stuff you can ask what you want. Gene.
LOL... can't believe those pics in the OP's post #1 survived on The HAMB for a year and a half...not a pre-65 in the lot
