I liked your puke post. lol That guy who said he'd puke if he saw a 5 speed in any vintage tin is just the kind of guy we were talking about a few weeks ago Dan. The'y crawl through glass to install a torque tube overdrive, but holy crap a 5 speed? Something you can actually shift? No fucking way!
I don't know what you did when you pulled it down, But I can tell you the rings are not sealing, plain and simple.--TV
I didn't get it. I know I was the first to respond to his ad but he said he had a buyer that later sent him a pm and would buy his entire collection or none at all. So he went that route. I was pretty excited thinking I got the head, even called Dan and told him. lol.
Recent comments about the Ford Barn Actually the Ford Barn has changed over the years. A few years back if you asked a question regarding modifying an "A" for more power no one would reply other than some who would tell you you were on the wrong site. Now, you can have, at times, a lively discussion over specific aftermarket speed parts or a particular modification to your engine. There are a couple of PC police that will immediately jump on you, one of whom regularly posted on this forum in the past. If you have a FS ignition that looks like an original distributor or you have an after market "cheater head" that looks stock that's OK, you know, larger valves "touring cam are fine cause they can't see them The complainers keep on complaining and the modifiers keep on posting. It is not a hot rod, dragster, or sprint car site but is primarily a forum for those that enjoy their model "A" wether it is a "high point" car or a beater. I mean, they used to get pissed if you asked about putting 16" tires and wheels on your "A". There is a lot of good information on that forum. But it is primarily for the stock original "A"'s.
Can anyone recommend a good shop that does babbitt in the so cal area.I have a model B motor that needs some work. Thanks TK
Bill, I have an appreciation for both stock and hopped up. I'm no banger expert nor can I speak for all barners (I've been on the barn for 3-4 years and met a some great barners in person). As you said, there are guys that are die hard stocker guys, but there's a lot that aren't that defined. Most, I'd say, run at least a highcomp head. I choose to listen/read like a do here.
Hi! A quick newbie question. I am installing a Scalded Dog single downdraft manifold with a Ford 94 carb (acually an AAI) on my Ford four cyl. I am trying to hook up the throttle linkage using the stock ball. I noticed that in a lot of pictures most are using a long chrome strip with holes bolted into the manifold kind of as a fulcrum to make the forward moving push throttle from the car pull the carb throttle open. Is there a source for that chrome metal piece? All the hot rod catalogs have are four inch pieces and some kind of adjustable hinge types that cost and arm and leg. I tried to hook up a 6 inch chrome muffler hanger off of a motorcycle, but it's too short and won't open the carb all the way. Thanks.
Why all this Fordbarn talk? The HAMB is different from most places We here know that. THANK YOU but Next!
Thanks Bill, I talked to Chris from Taylor's last Sun at pancakes and A's, they're the only one on my list. I didn't think about Egge's.
I like the Ford Barn. I think it is a valuable resource. I just like to play with people that take themselves too seriously. .
How do you figure that? You must be look'n at the residue from the leaded 115 Octane gas I have to run. I should think that a guy, REALLY wanting to know if there is a ring or valve problem, would, as I do after any weekend event. Do a leak down test. If you don't know what that is, ask any aircraft mechanic. The worst cylinder I have now is 50/47. And, if you don't know what that means; ask an aircraft mechanic. "PLAIN AND SIMPLE"! eh? "Dawg
NOS 32 Ford Oil Filler Breather Improved Design. Does anybody here have knowledge of this type 4 cly Oil Filler Breather? It is NOS 32 Ford part number B-6763-B, Ill paraphrase the original Ford literature; Improved Larger Design with more redesigned baffles that offer less restriction to vapors but improves vapor velocity causing more oil to return to the crankcase then previous design, but permits the easy escape of the more volatile gases that reduce crankcase dilution. Recommended where loss of oil took place because of previous design. Did these live up to Fords expectations? _______ (see photos included). Includes the original Cap, is there any difference with original Cap? thanks all; Ric
yes you can also buy them as an add on it assists in stopping the crankcase pressurising itself helps stop back main from leaking I would use breathers though. Claas motors also use a large filler like this.
New April Banger thread has commenced!-Weeks http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=576184
I bought the ends from Speedway and the rods from a local hardware store. I had a progrssive linkage from Speedway and used some of it for parts. They are in the flathead section in the Speedway catalog. I used a piece of aluminum flat bar for the fulcrum and bolted it to the manifold. I used a couple of shaft collars on the bolt to move the flat bar away from the manifold. I drilled a bunch of holes in the flatbar so I could adjust movement of the carburator butterfly. I played with a long time. Speedway sells the balls with screws and they were bolted on the flatbar. I think they call the fulcurm a bell crank. Some of the ball joints that screw on the rods are left hand threads. I was careful not to cut the wrong end off the rod because I do not have a left hand die. I am ready for summer and can not wait to start playing with the carbs and linkage.
