The front fenders are mounted; they were battered, so I sanded and polished them with 1000-grit wet sandpaper. They look quite presentable again.

Haven't checked in in a while since I sold my banger powered Cabriolet a couple years back but I'm hoping to get back in the game. Got a friend who has a rebuilt B motor in a crate and is looking to sell but doesn't have an idea what he wants. I'd like to make him an offer and be fair, any ideas? Also have a nice ch***is to put it in and then I'll find a body

Looking to get some education on mounting a downdraft intake with open ended mounting flanges leaving half the mounting washers hanging out in space. I'm using a full flange Red's header. Doesn't look right to me. How have others addressed this? Thanks. IMG_8172.JPG

I'd make machined spacers (steel?, alum?) to exactly fill the gaps. Compression/friction should hold the spacers in place, but I suppose the washer and spacer could be drilled for a pin or small screw to ensure the spacers remain in place (ie not lost) even if they come loose.

Machining the intake ears thinner doesn't seem like a good idea to me.

The unsupported bolt is going to tend to bend away from the intake flange (even if the intake flange surface is flat and parallel with the head). The easiest solution seems to me to be to shim the unsupported half.

Chevy used something like that on the 235 I6. I like the idea.

  10. I've used heavy wall tube before and cut one side away to the depth of the manifold flange. I'll get a picture later.

I got a piece of 1 inch square solid aluminum tubing. Will try making some solid spacers tomorrow. And perhaps some way to fasten it as per GuyW. I like the angle iron idea as well but will try solid aluminum first (idea being the same material will expand and contract the same). Thanks everyone. I only have basic tools so we'll see how it goes! Will report back when complete.

@GuyW it's a weird lens distortion or something. It's def not that wonky in real life:)

I was just talking to Charlie Yapp about the stud problem and he informed me that they used to cast the intake with full flanges and that everyone complained so they started casting only with crows feet. He told me that Red's Headers sold a solution which I think is pretty close to what has been proposed here. I have contacted them and am awaiting a reply. I can make the stand-offs, but am curious as to what they had. I also mentioned about making the standoff using aluminum bar and he felt it would collapse when torqued on and would distort the readings. I know it is April, but it is hard to continue a conversation in the next month.
