Worked on the front brakes on the coupe today to get it to stop better. The brake wedges were really worn on the driver's side and slightly worn on the passenger side. Welded up the worn spots and then filed them back down and put them back in the car. Now it stops even faster. Also noticed that the mechanical brake hardware was aftermarket. "WenGo" Wennett-Gordon of Boston. WenGo? How 'bout right now! They apparently made a bolt with a grease fitting on it for leaf springs, and a replacement flange for Model Ts and As http://www.google.com/patents?id=1VBNAAAAEBAJ&dq=wennett+gordon http://www.google.com/patents?id=m9JJAAAAEBAJ&dq=wennett+gordon

Bingo! Did the trick Dirtynails. Started right up, rattling the tools off the cowl. My neighbor came out of his house to check it out. He'd seen me workin on the roadster the past few weeks and knew I was trying to get the bleeding things started. I told him he'd know when it started since it has an open header. Making progress. Thanks again, Chris
Whoa, now that's a find! Wish you were closer, I'd consider one of the B motors if'n you were partin with em.
Took my coupe out last night to pay a visit to Nervous Bob, around a 70 mile round trip and the newly installed D Winfield behaved well except for one thing. It's icing real bad. It's not so bad round town but on the major roads and the revs are higher it's icing up and not allowing the throttle to close fully. It was pretty cold last night, but I didn't have the same trouble when the B was on there. There is an adapter on the intake which lifts the carb further away from the manifold which probably accounts for it a certain amount. Has anybody had similar problems in the past, or have any suggestions how I can go about eliminating the problem? I'll get it out during the day over the weekend and see how it performs in the warmer weather, fingers crossed it'll be ok.
It was certainly a cold night, Neil. Very foggy over this way, too, so plenty of moisture in the air. I think the situation will improve a little when you've got your bonnet and sides fitted, not to mention when the weather warms a little. Until then, I'd try to make some sort of duct that fits over the mouth of the carb that draws the air from near the header. I had to do that with my coupe when running the 94. Not pretty, but dead simple and effective.
I know the moisture has a lot to do with it. I was out in the car last weekend and it was fine despite the cold, then the rain came down and it started icing. The duct idea is quick and simple fix, gotta say it would look butt ugly though.
If it's a choice of a poorly running car or ugly, I go for ugly. Though if you spend a bit of time and give it some thought, it may not be too bad. Mine took 10 minutes - and it showed! - but the car ran well. If I could've been arsed, I'd have made a better job, instead I fitted a 97 and that never iced for some reason.
Ugly is fine by me, I'm from the 10 minute fix-it school as well. I'm just hoping to find a cure so it doesn't do it through the summer months. If I fit the hood it won't matter what it looks like anyway.
I would possibly be interested in the other B motor if you'd like to get a hold of me when you get done sorting and have a price in mind.
Tub in da dirt- great score!!!!! Got some more done on the roadster last night. Gotta get the other headlight stand done and chop the windshield next.
You two just have to bait me into it don't you. Damnit, I've talked myself into looking at an all stock A tomorrow. What the hell am I doing
Just a quick thought on something to try. WD-40 dissipates water. I wonder about fogging around the mouth of the carb before you go out on those cold nights. Worth a try at least?
Well I finally got my "A" far enough along to take it for a spin around the block. It was pouring down rain (no top or windows.. I was soaked!), but still worth it. I was very surprised in how snappy it is now It's running rich. The intake came with a 94, but is that too much? should I put a 97 on?
Very cool HR40, I don't think 1 94 is too much. I'm running 2 81's on a stock B engine with a 7-1 head and it runs fine. I will probably go to 2 97's soon. .
I'm running 2 81's on an A engine with 7-1 head and it seems like i'm running a little lean. Thinking about putting the 97s that came with the intake back on. Question? When I brake, my car wants to die, like the fuel is sloshing to the front of the carb bowl, starving the carb. I have to rev up the car before getting to a stop light. I'm not running a fuel pump, so that's probably why. Pressure drops when I brake.
Looks great Corey, can't wait to take a spin in it They make different power valves and such...I don't really know if that would make a difference, but I have some "smaller" ones for a 94.
It wasn't quite what I was looking for. Looked like a straight-ish car at first but there was a massive nasty botched repair all the way round the body and a LOT of filler slapped over it. Plus it needed tyres and brakes, kingpins, steering box, didn't hear the engine running. Needed a lot of work and money thrown at it to make it safe and roadworthy in my opinion.
Don't let it put you off, keep on looking. You could always go over to Bob's and piece together a rolling frame, then keep an eye out for a body at a later date. I'm not helping am I?!!!
Another view I thought caught the color. It adds to the nostalgia. Not much happening in Dagget on 66, all on the freeway now. These are from a series entered in a photo contest for the route 66
