Any members out there yet? I'm planning ongoing tomorrow, but here it's supposed to rain all day. How's the weather out there? Also, please post pictures.
Hey B, The weather is always unpredictable. But, here are the results of predictions based on satellite maps from the three top weather companies as I have used them in the past. They are the most accurate and the satellite images along with the radar maps are pretty good. So, take them as you will. Some diehard folks will show up rain or shine. It might be better to call ahead prior to taking off in the early hours. Jnaki The satellite images are good indicators of long range applications, but as the winds increase, the direction and flow moves that much faster. It is always coastal first, inland california, next and then onward to the Midwest to plummet them. As it hits mountain ranges, coastal, inland or farther east, it fights to get over the tops and drops a ton of rain on the ocean side of the range peaks. Famoso is at the bottom of a mountain range area and should get its share of water. So, much for predictions, but the geography is there and it is now up to the storms to do what they want... drive safely IF you go... since it is fairly flat area in and around Bakersfield, watch out for flash floods, too. We raced the March Meet many years. I'd say the split between good weather and rain to be nearly 50/50, and I've spent many weekends sitting and waiting for the rain to go away. We haven't raced in a few years because they got a bit greedy. But, it was fun while it lasted. Some great memories, including a win in 2009. With the weather outlook for here in Central California for the weekend....it ain't lookin' good!
Anybody know if they got any racing in out there today? I was ready to go Friday morning but our well died. Did a few checks and called the well service people. So much for my trip down to Bakersfield.
I did see on Drag Race Central that Ron Capps was driving a Fuel Altered Fiat again. And there were 13 AA/FDs and 23 N/FCs trying to qualify. Wish I was there.
I sure miss live streaming coverage of the March Meet, I'm a Fuel Altered freak, so it's like Mecca. Been out there twice, and contemplated it again for this year, but chickened out. I did see some on Facebook, shot by Frankie Larrabee. Looks like it was cold and they were shut down by rain late Friday, but I don't know what happened Saturday.
The first qualifying session for T/F, F/C and the fuel altereds was good, little down time and strong runs; then it started to rain, and we left. Swap meet was poor, grove was dead, took a few pictures and watched the golf cart rally. Started raining Saturday morning and left, don't know what transpired after that. .
When I was at the CHRR at FAMOSO back in 2016, I snagged one of these March Meet posters, advertising for the March meet in 2017.
I was surprised to see the Burkholder Bros Fiat actually competing, it’s been just a show/cackle car for quite a while. Good for them. It looks like the weather kept a lot of fans away, and a few of the racers too. I certainly understand that, but I feel for the track owners. I understand that the March Meet is usually a huge part of the yearly income for them.
