It has been awhile since my last post about my Chevy Panel Delivery truck I am getting. In that post I mentioned I would try to post some pics of the Marmon my dad and I are building. It is a 1928 Marmon Model 68, it was crushed by a tree and will be getting a a Pontiac 350 with a TH400 behind it. Havent decided much beyond that. Just wanted to show you guys some pics. So here you go, I am guessing you can tell which two are right after the tree incident, and the other as the Marmon is now basically.
Intersting project, hope you have most of the parts to go with it, always liked the looks of the horizontal hood louvers. I send you a PM
You guys did good on the repairs...I'm parked next to a Marmon right now but it's got a 400 Cummins and pulls a 48' flatbed....
Iwould think finding parts for a Marmon would be dam near impossible! Are there any areas of the country where someone would more likely find one?
There's a guy in Columbus, Ohio, who has a Marmon V-16 in a Deuce roadster. Finding the parts isnt terribly impossible - there is a Marmon Club that ssems to be a pretty decent resource. It's paying for the parts that's damn near impossible. d
Thanks for the comments guys. Actually we are forutnate enough to have a good majority of the parts for the car. So putting it back shouldn't be to difficult. As for parts when you own a couple Marmons, the other Marmon owners are pretty good at helping find any needed parts. I have actually found some on Ebay as well. Ahhh good ol' Ebay! Well, hopefully we will get some more progress done in the next few months (yes, this is the slow project) and I will be able to post some pics. And by the way, FOUL do you have any pics of that deuce or any info on the guy, would love to know more about that. Thanks again.
Back in 1946 the Unlimited Class Record Holder was a Marmon V-16 powered car owned by Tony Capanna. Has a record time of 137.24, that was a two way run adverage, with a 145.39 one way the fastest ever in SCTA Dry Lake racing at that time.
I seem to remember hearing that there are a lot of Marmon stuff is Salt Lake City. Oh wait, thats Mormon stuff sorry
No, I only have a pic of his Minerva, and that's at work. In fact, all his contact info is at work too. His name is Tom Sutphen, though, and I think his phone number is (614) 921-1990. He'll talk your ear off. d
Thanks Foul, can you double check the number for me sometime just so I dont call the wrong number. Thanks for all the comments, you wouldnt believe how long it took me to talk my dad out of buying a crate engine (not that there is anything wrong with crate motors) to put in this project. Now I just have to talk him into a few more of my ideas. We are going to shoot it in two tones of green, should look pretty snazzy when its done, well at least I hope it will. Not going to be much of a traditional rod, but hey, when it isnt completly yours, you can't always get what you want (hmm, that's a good song too).
