This makes a guy like me wanting an A/V8 feel like his task is far less daunting. A simple hot rod is nothing compared to scratch building 90% of an historic race car! Thanks for sharing this. -Dave
I ran into Corky at the 500 on race day and he was telling me about it. It looks fantastic! Great job.
TLB@HCG - Wow! ... Very cool replica! ... Great workmanship! ... Nice photography! ... Thanks for sharing! Sent from my iPhone using TJJ
The original was an amazingly good-looking car, well proportioned and detailed. Your replica looks exactly right, and that's great!
Yes sir! It's currently on display in the Coker Tire lobby/showroom, so I'm sure you'll get to see it one way or another!
Not sure on speed yet. We haven't really had a chance to stretch its legs, but we'd venture to say 80 is totally possible. We're sure Corky will see exactly what it'll do. To everyone else, thanks for the compliments...everybody at Honest Charley Garage worked hard on this car and the finished product is really cool! We do***ent all of our builds (mainly for the customer's sake) but we'll make a habit of posting progress pictures here too.
Nice job! Too bad Corky doesn't care as much about the products he sells to us!! Perhaps he should think about using a little of his wealth on repairing the Firestone bias ply molds he's using to build the ****py, out-of-round Firestone tires he's been screwing us on for years!! Just an thought!
Hey Buddie , Ease-Up, Corky is a good guy, I believe it says on the tires FOR DISPLAY ONLY, NOT FOR HIGHWAY USE
Man, that stings a little, but everyone has an opinion. I'm sorry you've had trouble with Firestones.
Who ended up doing the photo shoot of this car? They turned out great! I'm guessing they still don't do the car justice, though...
I (Tommy Lee Byrd) did the photo shoot on it...I handle all of the photography for Honest Charley Garage, as well as Coker Tire. I also do freelance work for magazines and such.
Wow, great thread! The car is very impressive and so is the photography. I think it is cool that Corky had his own hands involved with the build instead of just writing the checks. I think it is even cooler that he was out flogging it on test runs around the block (as well as letting the primary builders in on the fun too). You guys are A-O-K in my book.
I bought BFGoodrich tires in bigs and littles for a roadster, yes, they were radials. I wont have my **** on bias plys after what I went through with bias ply back in the day. If you youngsters think they are cool looking, you are right. If you think they are safe, stay away from me. I would buy from Coker tire again in a minute. They are good people to do business with. And I thank Coker Tire for this thread, it has been very enjoyable.
That's cool. It would be interesting to find out how fast they could be run before they shredded. Someone else made a comment on the Firestone gum dipped bias ply tires that seem to have so many problems. Would you please have Corky get on the Hamb and address the issues about these tires. I have two sets of them that I bought from Coker. I have lived with their inherent flaws from the beginning. It would be great to have the quality issues that so many people have raised addressed by the guy that could actually do something about. I love the way they look I just wish there were round from the beginning and I had no fear that chunks were not going to fly off at speed. The Wasp is killer. I wonder how fast you guys will drive it?
Corky is one of the guys that just gets it! The Wasp is excellent! Good work for sure. iPhone - TJJ App
