Does this count as Maroon? I don’t know the owner. I would call this sort of a brandy wine. IMG_5451.jpeg

I’m from Arkansas so I might go with some type of “Razorback Red”. IMG_5453.jpeg

Honestly, I have thought Maroon is overdone for a long time. If you get it right, on the right car though, can be hard to beat.

  10. Not sure if this is really maroon....
Paint color is "dark red". Like most reds it gets lighter in the sun.

When I was a kid I remember driving by the Ford dealership at night and seeing a brand new Maroon '49-'50 two door lit up on the showroom floor. Beautiful! Forty or more years ago we were exploring Unionville,NV. The cool old couple that ran a museum there and were some of the only residents showed us around. The old guy (younger that I am now) took us in a shed to show us a '51 Ford he bought for his son thinking the Korean war would cause car shortages like WWII. He drove it from the dealership in LA to their home there and parked it. When they moved to Unionville he drove it there and put it in the shed set it up for storage and covered it with a parachute. It had less than 800 miles on it. It was maroon and smelled dusty new. I don't know what would have happen if you tried to sit in it or drive it but it reminded me of the one I saw as a kid. He flat would not sell it. When his son got back from the war he bought a Pontiac, don't know what color it was.

More colors I like. I admit some of these are more burgundy than maroon but the name maroon can cover a range of color. IMG_5474.jpeg

Tone is leaning towards the red side, but I think it could be called maroon. The color is in between red and purple. Some of the ones I posted lean heavily towards the purple side. Any more purple in this, it’s no longer maroon. IMG_5501.jpeg

    Hello,

During the start of the pandemic, we were all a little off balance. Do we venture out and do our own thing or follow the lockdown request from the medical professionals? We had to get our lives situated and needed to run some final errands prior to the neighborhood lockdowns.

So, we cautiously ventured outside in our daily driver. We got some gas, dropped off a pharmacy request and mailed a package. But, in doing so, we spotted a new custom sedan delivery on the back of a big flatbed tow truck. From somewhere near the oceanfront, was the direction this new sedan delivery was coming from at the time we took a photo. New deep dish rims stood out from all the way across the busy highway.

The Tahitian red/Maroon paint looked as if it was just applied and buffed to perfection. But, it still had the unfinished look. Perhaps it needed some extra detailing and maybe a full upholstery inside. Although there are two good upholstery places in the nearby industrial areas.

So my wife and I watched as the sedan delivery rolled by us and in the opposite direction. The parting shot was in the outside rear view mirror for the “last goodbye.”

Well, it was a command I did not want to come true. After I said those good byes, my wife and I have not seen this newly finished Chevy sedan delivery ever again. YRMV

    Hello,
Maroon is a color that is a wide spread choice. On some paint palettes, it stands out by itself. On other ones, with custom color mixing, the color spreads out and enters into the realm of dark Tahitian Red and a darker Candy Apple Red tones. (Home made "candied apple on a stick" were always darker than what we saw on custom hot rods at car shows...YRMV)

One day prior to the pandemic, I was visiting some friends and various locations in So Cal. I had just dropped off my wife and that business would take about 3 hours, so I had time to go to locations in different industrial areas nearby.

As I was driving down a street in the middle of an industrial area, I happen to spot a nice 33-34 Ford coupe. It had a great stance and was done nicely. The color stood out even though it was half of the industrial shops away. There were about 10 shops in a row. The parking lot was like any other parking lot, cars full of grey, white, black and other neutral colors. But this Tahitian Red or Maroon color stood out quite well.

Up close as I drove by, it was finished with chrome wire wheels and plenty of shiny accessories. I did not want to seem like a spotter for a car theft ring, so I just kept driving through the area. Onward to go get some lunch…

As I turned to get out of the industrial tract, I saw a row of parking places that held several mid-build cars open and under covers of some kind. So, these shops must have been in the car rebuilding business. A place I just happened to stumble upon and one day, I may go back to see any other cars in various stages of builds. YRMV
