You're drilling? Not that I've tried it yet, but
I've read that a hole saw works better.
I guess it would depend on the size of the finished hole.
And whether you were getting into the radius at the bottom of the web where
a drill bit could bounce around.
    Coming along great Martin.

  4. Unbelievable! Love the Dash! Oh ,and thanks for the boat ride!

I just made markings with a 1/4 drill and then used my superhuge holesaw;)

The 1/4 marking was used to center aim the waterjet needle. the needle is coned so it worked great.
Did one hole at the time.

Not so Hamb friendly but anyway I did this little cromemolly cage the other day, I might be a chicken but I am going to buckle up in this car and I wanted some solid support for the belt mounting places.
It also works as a side impact support, Gettin a side hit in a crossing if not the best in a 32 :)
This thing wont be seen as it will be behind the interior.

I like that small cage. I bet it will add a LOT of rigidity to the car. When you close the door it will sound solid.

  13. Very smart - nice clean design of which I'll probably steal - :) - when I start on my 5-window ....

:)That's real cool. HAMB friendly ? It's exempt when on the SAFETY list and will be great in figure 8 races. :D:eek::cool:

I think so to, there is a seperate flange between the tubeflanges that has two more boltholes that goes into the front trunkpost and it is also bolted in the doorpost.
I belive it will help with the soo common crack issue in the front trunklid corners (on the body, not trunklid)

The waterjet sure has it limits, only 2 axis . To make the part you show the solution would be in multiplied parts and weld. The Lathe will come in use.

Another deal for the guys with a 5 axis mill :)

Why did you make the cage removable? Just for painting issues? I'd see it being even stronger if it was welded in at all those points.

I am building a '26 T modified with cowl steering. I built a similar cage to go under the cowl, but welded mine in. I think it will be much stronger than just bolted in, but granted I won't be able to get paint on all the backsides.

I did it removable for two reasons, paint /dynamat and to be able welding it all around. If I welded it all together to one peice outside the car theres no way to get it in as the cage is to wide to pass the door posts.
Right or wrong, I dont know but thats how I did it. Anyhow, it feels rock solid :)

Just notised the Coffee Cup Holder tread so it feels like it is time for me to confess as I have sinned.......again ;)
It feels really wrong but this car is supposed to be a real long distance driver and I can't be without it.
The postive thing is that no one will see it :)

I made a box out of steel were a Saab 9-5 holder fits and then mounted it under the seat frame.

It's ok, you can call me gay .

In regards to the cup holder - hey if works do it! And your mounting makes it virtually impossible to see when not it use. I've got an under seat style cup holder like yours from a '96 Dodge Caravan middle seat tha I plan on using in a similar fashion. I like!
