I need some input on what is best to use to mask critical bearing surfaces before chrome plating a part? Can I use some type of paint? The chrome shop I use does nice work...but doesn't communicate very well, so I need to make sure I have any bearing surfaces, etc, protected when I send the parts.

    Thanks,

    Neal

If, you want a good chrome shop where you don't have to worry try: It's a small shop that does excellent work. The owner John is very cool.

Where I worked we used wax to mask off places where no plating was going. Dipped the part in hot wax and then cut away the wax from the plated surfaces. Also used yellow "Platers tape. This was mostly landing gear. Not show chrome.

  4. When Advanced Plating did mine it had tape on the critical points. HRP

  5. When I was a kid I worked a year in an appliance factory and the plating line was one place I worked. They had a rubberlike substance on the racks and I believe it was similar to the dip you put on tool handles....it peeled off easily after plating
