Yup glad I live close enough to enjoy .30 cents off a gallon of gas. and not deal with the yearly inspections. Let the front fenders flap in CT!

What's all this static about duct tape! There isn't anything in this whole world that can't be fixed with enough duct tape!

when ct. had inspections i made a lot of dough welding frame rails and floorboards. the inspectors wanted no undercoating so they could see the repair on frames and body supports. pop rivets and bondo were ok for outer body and floorboards. [would only weld] now if you have the proper paper work you can register with more rust than car.

The cops in my area really don't bother the hot rod guys, there are guys I know that don't even get a sticker...but it is a moving violation if you get a ticket for it and will go on your insurance record...the cops like to go after the fart can guys with a car attached...

I heard that Maine is the place to register your ride.

    Any truth to that?

  13. well I went and looked at the truck yesterday, floor board needs replacing, little hole on the front fender needs patching, door bottoms needs patching, and cab corners need to be replaced. I guess I am gonna have to get good at stick welding body panels, I guess if I plan on staying here in m*** I should learn that anyways. and it looks like the cab corners are hard to come by, but I do have a solution to that too, once I get it and start on the body work ill get into that, but for the most part all the rust is in places that is flat or has very simple curves, so I plan on trying my hand at hand forming sheet metal to fix. so expect a bunch of bodywork questions coming from me in the following months. learning new things. isn't it grand!

Thats crazy. Most of the time here in MO. they don't even inspect the cars. Usually the only thing on my cars that gets "inspected" is the ODO and the VIN number just to make sure everything matches. And if you have historic tags there is no inspection ever.

After looking at cars in AZ with no rust...how can you even think about it...go back and pluck one from desert...

  16. lol easier said then done, most places that have old tin hanging out in the desert the hill-billy that owns it wants an arm and a leg for it, theres usually a reason as to why it has sat there for 30 years lol.. thats okay theres a lot of time involved with fixing up the body, but not alot of money, which is my situation to a T. so a welding I will go lol....

don't discount the new body glues, friends of mine have been using them to keep their plow trucks weather tight and looking decent for the customers

Ya' gotta watch out for the desert hill billys...it made laugh...one time about 20 years ago, I was going up to Crown King from Bumble Bee and saw some old tin off the road...as I was checking it over...I heard what sounded like a 30-30 going off and then I heard the bullet rip through the old tin...I got the message...real quick...hehe!...got to love the West...

When I did inspections in a garage here in Ontario the rules were as follows:

    1) No holes in the floor that could allow exhaust fumes to gas the p***engers

    2) No jagged rust holes on the outside that could gas p***engers or snag pedestrians

    3) No frame or unibody rust bad enough to weaken the structure.

Pop riveted patches, undercoating, and duct tape allowable on body holes but not on structural frame or unibody repairs.
