That wasn't apparent to me at first ... I can see that being a serious problem. I found the other thread with many good questions, such as, what about the original VIN stamped all over the frame? Etc.

My understanding is any non "kit" car can be registered with a pan (p***enger car) plate, just like any off topic daily driver. I believe you may need to amend the ***le with a M***achusetts issued vin.

Now the issue is that this is not legal because chapter 90 defines a custom and as such it technically needs to registered as such.

So I guess when you register your custom as you normally would and you get caught by a cop taking a right on red, and if he is aware of the changes in the law, he will decided if the car is registered properly or not and act as the situation warrants.

The new MA ***igned vin will superceed all other numbers. The MA number will be broken down like a new vin where every character represents a part of the car. That new VIN will then need to be given back to your insurance co. to form new paper work whereas a new ***le will be issued for your hot rod.

The DMV states that all 50 states will be aware of the new process, but the reps were not all that confident in their answers on how vins would be translated if a car was sold out of state, apparently they feel like no one will ever sell their cars.
    As an example:
The new ***les will say, for instance,
"2012 Street Rod Ford(1932)" even if its a numbers matching coupe with just a newer flatty motor.

Those re***led cars will be worthless elsewhere! The rest of the world doesn't allow changing the VIN!
