Master cyl took a dump, now no brake lights...

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Winged Avenger II, May 27, 2012.

  1. '41 Pontiac with drum brakes on all four. Master cyl. crapped out. Replaced MC, stops car fine, good pressure, etc. Since installing the new 2 chamber MC, (old one was also 2 chamber):confused:there are no brake lights. Never had trouble with a switch before. ANY RECOMMENDATIONS AS TO WHAT BRAND OF SWITCH TO USE?? Car has '41 "Cruise Control", pull a knob and accelerator holds in place at speed. Some switches can't be used if car has CRUISE CONTROL. Any problems with Standard Switch? Heard there's one called Jack Russel or something? All responses are appreciated. Thanx.

If you use an electrical switch on the brake pedal it doesn't matter what else is in the system. It's what I'd do.

Funny stuff, someone gave it one star? Sheesh.

I am not familiar with where the switch was or is, but can't you just use the swing lever kind at the linkage?

The lever is spring loaded inside, and when you close it up under tension, the contacts will be open. The lever is adjusted so that there is just enough preload on it from the linkage, that the brake lights go out. Then, just a bit of travel and the switch makes contact
