Looking for input from anyone that has had or used a Maverick manual steering box. Pros and cons.
I'm considering using it on my Model A build.
    Thanks, D

  2. D,
Isn't the maveric cross steer? Will the box function with a drag link or are you using a cross steer setup?

  3. I used a early Mustang box on a '32 sedan but wasn't real happy with it,,the Mustang and the Maverick are very similar. HRP

Porknbeaner, I'm going to to use a cross steer setup. It currently has a corvair box but after I lowered the front axle, the hairpins hit the corvair pitman arm.

They worked good in a Maverick. I had one manual and another with power. Both were 302's. Never had an issue with them. In a light car like an A, they probably would work well.

I personally have never used a Maverick I was able to find a Mustang cheap enough but a buddy of mine used a Maverick when the price of used boxes got crazy. (that is what started the Vega craze) I don't think it was an exact copy of the Mustang but it was close enough to work just fine. When they started to restore Mustangs and street rodders were using them for their 4 bar systems, Mustangs got very pricey. Mavericks were a cheap alternative.

  7. The early Mustangs were based on a shorter wheelbase version of the Falcon platform, same thing was used for Maverick as well. The Mustang boxes may have a different ratio, but essentially the same animal as the Falcon/Comet/Maverick.

I also am using a Mustang boxin a model A. I am having clearance issues with the 4 bar. The pitman arm rubs on the upper 4 bar attaching bolt. It also rubs on the splash apron. B y installing the ball joint from inside out I have some clearance but I will have to notch the box bracket. grrrrrrr

  9. Not sure these are really appropriate for cross steer solid axle applications, did you ever do this? They do work really well with a 4 bar front

    Mustang is 108", Falcon 109.5", Maverick 103"
