I didn't make it this year . . . was so close to buying a ticket, just too damn much work was in the way. But - given Ryan's post - who wants to chip in for a couple black satin jackets for he and the little lady? I'll put in the first $25 - who else??? Who can do the front end grill-shot pattern for the '38 and some lettering . . . like this: 38 Ford Lil' Maverick I'd pay good money to see him in it . . . really would. Hell, I might even come to Texas for that shit! LOL Anybody game?
Hey Don - I grew up in Torrance and Pete's Dad 'Pat Santini' taught me to paint about 40 years ago! I went to his shop one day (16 years old) because I heard he was the best around (and I wanted to learn how to really paint). An undercover cop friend named 'Big John' referred me. Anyway, I met Pat and told him what I wanted to do . . . and he said "Kid's don't want to learn how to do stuff like this anymore . . . I learned as an apprentice, the Old Masters would teach me during their lunch breaks in Italy . . . ". So I told him - I'll come every day after school and I'll work for FREE! I don't think he knew how to say "No" to that - so that is how I got started. It wasn't too long before he was paying me and teaching me . . . I owe all my paint and finishing skills to that man. Please tell 'Pete' that Dale Hays said 'Hi!' - he painted graphics on my Uncles truck one time - but that was 30 years ago and it was the last time I saw him. His Dad was a GREAT man and mentor to me.
Very nice write up Ryan, as always. Where ever GNRS and/or AMBR will go, I hope you remain a maverick and remember, 'old guys rule'
Pat was a great guy - straight up body and paint guy and did it well into his later years. I'm going to copy this and send it to Pete if that's cool with you Dale.
Hear and read ya........just thinkin' back in the day....the late 30's...the 40's and early 50's....was it all about the chrome - the paint and wheels ? Guess you could call it a show.....
[And the only thing worse than underestimating the influence you have is over-estimating it.] Very true. Well said. That so rare combination of humility and blow me away talent and expertise. What a group, this bunch. Thank you Ryan.
My M.P. Patrol Car at Ft. Ord was a Maverick. Also had a M151A2 Jeep and a K Car. Good times... Sent from my SM-G930T using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
