Wow, Daddyo, that looks like really high compression. Will you have to round over those sharp edges to prevent hot spots and pre-ignition? Cool shit, my man.

Was hoping to get the A running this weekend, NAPA let me down on delivering some key parts.

Anyone heading to Bakersfield for the swap meet on Saturday…? I’ll have a spread of Winfield and Buffalo goodies set up. Don’t recall the space number off hand, but know I’ll be near the back fence with all the other prewar crew:cool:

I’ll be doing that on my current project. Do they fit the same as a later V8 case, or do you need to do the drop the cluster thingy?

It’s the first time I’ve ever taken a transmission apart. It really wasn’t too difficult but I learned quite a bit. From my understanding if you’re putting the gearset in the correct case, the front retainer bearing is pressed on the main shaft before assembly. On the B case the bearing needs to be pressed on with the input shaft in the case. I guess in some instances the B case needs to be clearanced for the cluster gear. My case didn’t require this.

A deal that was in the wind since forever finally came off (in part) for me last weekend.

I got 'paid' for a bunch of stuff in the form of a repop stromberg 81.

The dealer out here agreed to swap an unopened 97 for another 81.

My friend and I drive over to purchase one 81 and swap over the other one ...... and they only have one 81.

So my plan to set up my twin carb intake over our winter incurred an indefinite delay.

Oh well, I'll just have to sit back and read the banger threads until it arrives

Still scratching my head on this one. This is a "one of these days" projects. The pistons have room for improvement.

Not sure why I bought it… but the price was right! Hell, I don’t even own a model A;)

Anyone have the drawings to machine this thing…?

Looks very interesting. I hope it can be identified. I haven’t seen much Bsnger speed equipment here in Illinois.

It’s a pretty rough casting and also has a touch of corrosion on one corner. There are also some small welds here and there to fill imperfections and voids. I believe the corrosion will be removed during machining and it should hold oil when done. Don’t know if I need to keep it, but would definitely like to finish the machine work either way…

Wowza Mike! Yours has a muuuch nicer mold quality than mine. Interesting how several of the pan bolts were abandoned due to the rod clearance. Mine is not relieved under the front oil seal, just a big hunk of aluminum. At first I thought this was a crappy copy of someone’s work of art, but the sand mold would have required several cores and mold inserts that would not have been easy to fake on the fly. Someone spent a lot of time making the patterns for this thing… then never finished it:rolleyes:

phr-1964-jg-4copy.jpeg Kevin, I had a rough casting like yours and sold it to the late Bob Lee 35 years ago. I bought it from a fellow who had a lot of Gemsa stuff and he told me it was Gemsa. I wonder if that's the casting I sold Bob. The pan in my photo is an older Dan Price piece, who told me he cast it from the Rutherford patterns that he had. Note that there is no provision for an oil pump, you must run a pump off the front timing cover. The magneto cross drive cover in my picture is an Evans with a dry sump pump. You're welcome to borrow my pan if it will help with machining.
