When I was in jr high a friend of mine had a three wheel car with one of these engines. He would bring it to the school after hours and ride it around. It looked to be quite fast.
I have recently obtained one of these Maytag Toy Racers and will need to get some pieces. If anybody has contact info for parts help can you please let me know. Thanks, Richard Lewis

Does anyone have a toy Maytag Racer for sale original or replica? Where is the next hit-n-miss show will be held that may have maytag washing machine motors
I had a couple of these engines when I was a kid. They did not have carburators. They had a pipe with a cap on the end that adjusted engine speed. I'm surprised they could pull that little car. The ones I had did not seem to have much torque but then they may have been worn out. I paid 75cents for them at an auction house in the town I lived in.
Had a couple of singles and twins both feed off a siphon tube and the speed is somewhat controlled by turning the feed adjuster. Hard to believe that the folks up north ran the gasoline powered washers in their homes with the exhaust running into a bucket of water or by running an exhaust tube out the window.
my first try to build a hot rod at about the age of about 12 used several of the one cyl. models. problem I found, 5/8 of a hp just wasn't enough, there just wasn't enough power for me and both one and 2 cyl were the same 5/8 hp.
Consider yourself lucky to have a hood and belt guard. In the day the low horsepower Maytag motor was often replaced with a Briggs or anything with more power. That meant that the hood and belt guard no longer fit and often dissappeared. Probebly best that the power was low as the wheel track was fairly narrow. I've made several hoods and belt guards for them as a consequence. John
