Hey Everyone, I was talking to my good buddy Kiwi Kev.. I was tellin him about my current project(53' chevy) and mentioned i found an old McGurk intake. Now, I have seen them unpolished..polished ect but he told me that a few years back he had one for a GMC pick up he was doing and it was painted a light blue(hammer tone I believe he said).. he thought that that was the way they were sold... I did a search on here for McGurk stuff and saw a Valve cover and in the photo's you see traces of a light blue paint.. anyone have any info on this.. My project(and problem) is I like to get super crazy with details.. and I want to build my 53' to mid 50's era correct so I'd like to paint this intake the correct color if they did infact come painted. thanks jason
I have seen that light metallic blue on some early McGurk stuff also. You might try calling Isky cams, they bought out Frank McGurk years ago.
I thought it was Pink but blue makes more sense. I was just having a similar discussion a few weeks back. PM-7 intakes were red as well!
I think McGurk used several colors I have seen the blue hammertone the red and a shop I worked at had an NOS one in the card board and plywood shipping box that was that industrial beigey green like the old Bridgeport lathes.
I've got a 216 McGurk dual intake that still has its blue hammertone paint on it. Nicson intakes were a kind of pink/purple color.
any chance you could snap a photo so i can see the color? I wanna match it up as close to original as possible.. thanks.
I have a couple painted McGurks - a 3 single 270-302 GMC in factory pink metallic & a blue metallic 2 single for 228-270.
I have had several Nicson units, some of which had paint in good condition. I had a quart mixed to match. I have shot one so far and it turned out to be a good match except too glossy in comparison. Next one I'll shoot with some flattener. After it dried, I used a dremel tool to grind the paint off the fins / lettering - still looks good after a few years of hard driving.
