Thanks to everyone involved in taking and posting these pictures. They are outstanding. I will show them to my friends who were there in the 60s.
Ouch, not sure what happened to that Thunderbolt up there. I'm glad people enjoyed these. I saw how awesome they were and had to put them up here!
Made my night, I could spend hours looking at these pieces of our history...THANKS FOR TAKING THE TIME TO POST THEM!!
These are the type of cars I remember !! This was surely the golden age of drag racing. Thanks for the memories !!
Nickam82: AWESOME stuff! Muttley: my sentiments exactly. A hang of alot of knowns and great unknowns! Looking at these made me feel like I was back sitting at York US30 ,Cecil or Maple Grove; a long time ago! Thank YOU.
This thread raises the bar for all of us. Thank you for bringing this one out of the locked up closet. A real history lesson.
In the background of the Thompson @ Poole Willys shot I see a Cobra hitched to the back of a Cadillac. Great shots!
Thanx so much for posting this work. I'd have to say this might be the single best collection I've seen, anywhere! Those were my wonder bread years, high school in the early / mid 60's and seeing all these cars as they were in the day is just amazing. Were they all taken at Indy? A favor? This is the only image my friend has of his H/Gas coupe. It won it's cl*** 2 years in a row in the early / mid 60's. If you happen to see it in the collection (even a partial shot), please let me know. Gary
Thanks for posting ......................it was as if I were there. Way too cool! The pits at The Meltdown Drags have this very same look and feel.
I believe the vast majority of the drag car pics were taken at Indy. I think there may be a few in there though that were taken at Orange or perhaps somewhere else in New England, not sure. These few hundred pics I put up are a small collection of what Mac has on 35mm slides. Someone he knows was able to get the above collection of them into a digital format and then I put them up here. I've put all the digitized ones up except for a couple that are close up pictures of his friends faces. Nothing against them, I just didn't want to put close ups of their faces up here without their permission. Oh, I also left out another image that shows the close up back of a Pontiac with a photo of a naked lady on the license plate
